Doubling up as a sofa, single bed, double bed, and storage unit, there are very few pieces of furniture that work as hard as the best-selling IKEA HEMNES daybed.

Most of us will have laid eyes on the iconic HEMNES daybed at some point in time (it's been doing the heavy lifting in homes since its debut in the early 2000s), but the latest colorway (a very on-trend gray green) has transformed it into more than a piece of practicality, but a design moment designed to elevate any scheme.

The HEMNES daybed might be a guest bedroom essential, the perfect multitasker when visitors come round, but with its shiny new coat of sage matched with rustic wooden handles, it's the perfect year-round living room staple too. From a chic loveseat in the day to a generous bed to spread out on come evening, IKEA's latest launch combines this year's biggest color trend with a timeless, long-loved classic.

While the HEMNES iconic pine frame remains the same design, it's been drenched in a soothing sage green paint that embraces one of this year's biggest color trends. A softer, more organic hue than the original white with a grounding, heritage feel, sage green is one of those timeless paint colors that blends into any scheme.

While the three (surprisingly roomy) drawers aren't a new feature, to match its iconic Scandinavian-inspired feel, it's been fitted with rustic pine handles to bring a modern twist to the long-loved staple. Ideal for bedding, clothing, or even books, the drawers are conveniently tucked away at the base of the bed, providing storage for every kind of hardworking space.

Able to transform into a double bed when required, the HEMNES is ideal for a small guest bedroom where you want to switch between a single and double bed. 'This is the perfect bed for a guest bedroom,' says one review. 'The quality is good, and the assembly wasn’t difficult.'

Another hails the HEMNES daybed for its flexibility, able to slot into all kinds of small spaces. 'We downsized from a huge house with huge bedrooms to a small house with small bedrooms, and needed something attractive that wouldn’t take up a lot of space. The bed comfortably accommodates two adults when fully extended, which was a huge factor in deciding to choose this daybed. We now have one of these in a guest room and a second one for our small office. They are attractive, and we appreciate the base having ample drawer storage for linens, pillows, and blankets.'

IKEA's beloved HEMNES daybed has always been practical, but now it feels on trend for 2026. The new timeless sage green paint doesn't make it any less of a hardworking, practical piece, but it's now more of a design moment in its own right, too.
