The Opening Note
This week on The Very British Edit, I’m focusing on something I come back to every spring: window treatments, and just how much they can change a room.
There’s something about this time of year that makes you notice them again. The light shifts, mornings get brighter, and suddenly the way it comes through your windows feels different. With that, the curtains or blinds you barely thought about all winter can start to feel a little off.
I’ve always believed that window treatment ideas have a bigger impact than people expect. They are not just there to finish a room; they shape how it looks and feels. They frame the view, soften the light, add privacy when you need it, and quietly pull everything together. When they work, the whole space feels more considered. When they don’t, something just feels slightly unfinished.
I tend to gravitate toward pieces that balance function with a bit of beauty. Light, airy curtains that move gently and let the room breathe. Tailored window blinds or shades that keep things polished while still doing their job. Then it is the textures and tones, those softer layers, that bring warmth and a subtle sense of ease.
The good thing is that your spring window treatment probably does not require a major overhaul to see a difference. Swapping out a blind, choosing a richer fabric, or layering two materials can completely shift the mood of a room. It can make everything feel brighter, fresher, and more intentional almost instantly.
This week, I’ll be sharing what I am actually looking at for my own space, from fabrics and colors to the styles I keep coming back to, and why they work both practically and aesthetically.
For me, spring is the perfect time to rethink these details. You are already more aware of the light, you are opening up your space again, and it is a natural moment to make small changes that have a big impact.

Because when your window treatments feel right, everything else tends to fall into place. The room feels calmer, more pulled together, and just easier to live in, whether it is a quiet morning with coffee or a long, bright afternoon with friends.

Next week on The Very British Edit, I’m focusing on something that feels particularly relevant right now: championing Earth Day at home and the small, considered changes that can genuinely shift how a space feels. With Earth Day falling on April 22, 2026, it feels like a natural moment to pause and think a little more carefully about how we live and what it means to be more sustainable at home.
There’s something about this time of year that naturally lends itself to a reset. The light shifts, you start opening windows, clearing things away, and refreshing your surroundings. Earth Day fits into that shift quite effortlessly, not as something overwhelming, but as a reminder that small, intentional choices really do add up.
I’ve always found that sustainable updates aren’t just about doing the ‘right’ thing; they actually make a home feel better to live in. Reusable kitchenware instead of single-use items, non-toxic cleaners that feel better day to day, and sustainable textiles that add texture and comfort without the guilt. It’s those quieter swaps that tend to make the biggest difference.
I’ve also explored this more personally. One year, I did a full ‘100-day no buy challenge’ and didn’t buy anything I didn’t truly need for 100 days. It completely changed how I think about consumption and what actually earns a place in my home. Since then, I’m much more intentional about what I bring in.
What I’ve learned is that it doesn’t take much. A few thoughtful changes, better materials, or simply being more mindful about what you choose can completely shift the atmosphere. Everything feels lighter, calmer, and more grounded.
Next week, I’ll be sharing the pieces, materials, and ideas I come back to when I want my home to feel both beautiful and more sustainable. These are simple, everyday choices that not only last forever, but also balance practicality with a more thoughtful way of living. Because when your home aligns with that, it doesn’t just look better, it genuinely feels better to be in.
