Cabinet hardware is truly the jewelry of the kitchen. It's that final touch that ties a scheme together and solidifies the room's aesthetic. But it also needs to be functional – few things are handled more than your hardware, so they need to hold up well.

Which is why choosing your kitchen cabinet hardware ideas and where to source the best options for your style and budget is so important. Your handles need to be strong and durable while adhering to your kitchen's overall style. And the look you want to create and your budget will dictate the best place to shop.

Anthropologie

Shipping: between 1-8 business days and up to $15.95 depending on delivery type. Orders over $50 ship free
Returns: 30 days from date of purchase
Best for: unique and decorative cabinet hardware

If you want kitchen cabinet hardware that's stylish and unique, I'd recommend Anthropologie every time. Its collection is surprisingly vast, including switch plates, handles, knobs, and even door knockers – ideal for creating a sense of cohesion throughout your home from the moment you reach the front door.

The kitchen cabinet hardware follows a clear aesthetic. All of the designs lean quite decorative, with lots of brass, marble-look, and playful motifs filling the hardware section. There's a real vintage feel to a lot of the hardware, too, which always proves timeless.

I would recommend using the filters here to get a full list of just knobs and handles, as the full hardware selection feels quite mixed and difficult to navigate, as it's not just specific to kitchen cabinet hardware.

But the reviews on the majority of the designs boast 4 stars, with customers describing them as 'stylish and sturdy' and easy to install. The only downside to Anthropologie's selection is that it offers quite a specific aesthetic.

If you have a more contemporary or minimalist kitchen, you might find it difficult to find a suitable design, although there are a few options that are sleeker than vintage. The majority of the designs are brass, with a couple of chrome alternatives sprinkled through the items.

Pottery Barn

Shipping: Standard and next day delivery offered, price dependent on location
Returns: 30 days with a receipt
Best for: Classic silhouettes

Described as 'premium cabinet hardware' on the website, you can be sure you are getting high-quality designs when you buy cabinet hardware from Pottery Barn. All of their cabinet hardware designs are simple and classic, with a clear focus on timeless style.

All of the kitchen and bathroom cabinet hardware is categorized together, which was slightly confusing at first, but actually makes shopping for various rooms much easier. Where Anthropologie's hardware options offered decorative designs, Pottery Barn is much more simplistic, except for the Hudson Knob, which features a ribbed finish.

Aside from he initial confusion between kitchen and bathroom designs, the shopping experience on Pottery Barn is user-friendly and easy to navigate. The filters are very clear, with the option to filter by finish, product type, price, and even delivery and pickup availability.

Each product is labelled as new, best seller, or contract grade, which proved surprisingly helpful during my search, and most are offered in a range of sizes and finishes.

West Elm

Shipping: Standard shipping is 4-5 business days, and next-day delivery costs an additional $26. Store pick-up is also offered on most items
Returns: 30 days from receipt of order
Best for: Contemporary hardware options

Another retailer that lists kitchen hardware under the bath section (but a lot of them are pictured in a kitchen, so they are absolutely suitable for your cooking space), West Elm offers plenty of designs that mostly feel more contemporary in style.

Unlike Anthropologie's vintage designs, West Elm's hardware is more polished and sleek, while still offering classic silhouettes for a timeless kitchen.

Prices here are more affordable than Anthropologie or Pottery Barn, with prices starting from $9, yet not quite as affordable as The Home Depot or Wayfair. However, you do get what you pay for – these stylish designs will instantly elevate any kitchen, are designed to be ergonomic, and are made from materials that guarantee longevity.

One of the biggest selling points of shopping for kitchen cabinet hardware at West Elm is that almost every handle comes in multiple sizes with a matching cabinet knob, which makes creating a cohesive yet visually interesting scheme easier to achieve.

deVOL

Shipping: 3-5 working days, price dependant on items purchased
Returns: 28 days from receiving items,
Best for: Timeless designs

You're probably very familiar with deVOL for its classic kitchens, from traditional Shaker doors to their Mid-Century-style Haberdashers range. But they also offer beautifully classic hardware that proves to be just as timeless as their kitchens.

Ideal for classic kitchens and period homes, its kitchen cabinet hardware designs range from classic cup handles and pulls to old school Georgian swing handles and catches. There's something very characterful about these designs that sets them apart from high street alternatives.

Each hardware design is offered in up to two sizes and seven finishes, so you can really find something that matches your desired scheme. deVOL is among the most expensive for cabinet hardware, with prices starting at $35 up to $143; however, they are designed to last, promoting a 'but once, buy well' ethos.

Target

Shipping: varies per product; some items have a minimum spend of $35 for home delivery
Returns: 90 days for most items
Best for: Variety of designs

For stylish yet affordable kitchen cabinet hardware, Target has a great range of styles and finishes to choose from. There's a vast array of brands listed here, giving you a greater variety to choose from in one space.

Finding the cabinet hardware section of Target wasn't the easiest to navigate (I've linked it above so you don't have to search for it like I did), but once you find it, there are some really useful filters to narrow down your search.

I filtered my search to cabinet knobs, locks, and pulls so the results were very kitchen cabinet specific, but you can also filter by price, finish, deals, and ratings. Target also uses useful labels for best sellers and highly rated pieces, making it easier to find the best designs.

Walmart

Shipping: Varies per item
Returns: Free 90-day returns on most items
Best for: Affordable prices

If you're looking for a place to buy kitchen cabinet hardware that offers plenty of designs at affordable prices, look no further than Walmart. While I wouldn't recommend every offering on the site, there are some great options in more simplistic and classic forms.

The biggest downfall I found when shopping on Walmart is actually finding the cabinet hardware category. It's a section that's very buried and took me a while to find. That said, once you land on the right page, there are some really good filtering capabilities, including price, finish, size, and material.

While the quality isn't quite as luxurious as deVOL or Anthropologie, you can filter by customer rating, which I would definitely recommend. You instantly get the best offerings, with one customer noting the hardware is 'so easy to install. Really freshened up my cupboards.'

If you're looking for anything decorative or high-end, Walmart isn't the best retailer; however, they are great for affordable, reliable designs, especially if you are searching for some classic silhouettes and modern designs.

Amazon

Shipping: Varies per product
Returns: Most items can be returned free within 30 days
Best for: Easy ordering

Amazon is the go-to when it comes to buying things for our kitchens, whether it's a pretty soap dispenser or aesthetic pantry containers. But it also has some great hardware options – I've even written about the best kitchen hardware at Amazon before, thanks to its wide range of options and ease of ordering.

The filtering options are some of the best, too, with 25 color options, price categories, and customer rating scales so you can tailor the results to your needs. It's also a website that has one of the highest rates of customer reviews, so I feel you get a good sense of what you are buying without seeing it in person.

I also really like that under every product, Amazon lets you know what items other customers bought with the hardware, as it helps you to find cohesive designs, and even faucets in the same tone and style. Plus, the sheer versatility of kitchen cabinet hardware options on offer here makes it a one-stop shop for everything you need.

Wayfair

Shipping: 1 to 7 days depending on delivery type
Returns: 30 days for most items
Best for: Variety of brands

Whether you love to shop a sale or simply like to browse kitchen cabinet hardware from a variety of brands in one place, Wayfair has you covered. I found it very easy to navigate the website, and was shopping for hardware in a matter of clicks.

As well as there being a variety of brands on Wayfair, I also really like the diversity in pricing, too. It's not just high-end or budget hardware, but a mix and everything in between. It gives you a really good idea of what the difference is between the two and gives you a better opportunity to compare quality and cost.

Again, Wayfair always gets top marks for its filtering options – I especially like that you can filter by the style of your kitchen, rather than just the style of hardware. There are options for Mid-century modern, country, and American traditional, just to name a few.

The Home Depot

The Home Depot Kitchen

Shipping: Dependent on item and location
Returns: 90 days for most purchases
Best for: Budget hardware

If you're remodeling your kitchen, the chances are, you will end up in The Home Depot at some point. If you're designing on a budget and prefer to keep your cabinet hardware simple, there are plenty of options for you here.

I found it really easy to shop here, with clear categories for drawer pulls, cabinet knobs, and even hinges, instantly simplifying the search. You can even click through to shop by color, rather than having to manually filter, which is super helpful if you know what you're looking for.

While you won't find the same decorative designs the likes of Anthropologie has to offer, I think The Home Depot does simplistic, classic silhouettes really well, and their range of finishes is great for the price. There's also the added benefit of lots of multipacks, with some containing 50 pulls or knobs for ease of purchase.

FAQs

What cabinet hardware is trending now?

This year's kitchen hardware trends are embracing a blend of timeless style and personalized designs. Think classic antique brass finishes and the return of gallery rails on shelves for an elevated look. Vintage kitchen hardware is also making a comeback, bringing an authentic, aged look to kitchens of every style.

On the other end of the spectrum, we're seeing unique hardware shapes, mixed metals, and handles that match the cabinet color, all becoming increasingly popular for something a bit more unique.

However, when it comes to faucets, classic designs are reigning supreme. In more traditional kitchens, designs like the deVOL Aged Brass Ionian Tap are a favorite among designers, and contemporary schemes, opting for a sleeker design like Kohler's Crue® Pull-Down Faucet is a stylish choice.

Should I get knobs or pulls on my cabinets?

While it may seem easier to introduce one consistent hardware style across all of your kitchen cabinets, opting for a mix instantly creates a more visually interesting and elevated finish. How to choose kitchen hardware will also depend on your space.

On your cabinet doors, opting for two different lengths of pulls instantly looks more considered. Heavy or large doors, such as those used for integrated appliances, will need larger handles for strength.

However, drawers or light upper cabinets, especially glass-fronted designs, always look chic with a classic knob instead of a pull. They generally offer less surface space, so a cabinet knob feels more proportionate compared to a full-size handle.

Whether you use knobs or pulls will also depend on the style of your kitchen. Contemporary spaces call for sleek handles and minimalist knobs, whereas a more traditional scheme better suits cup pulls and more decorative brass handles.

Is expensive cabinet hardware worth it?

The price of kitchen cabinet hardware really varies, with more luxurious designs proving more of an investment. But whether or not expensive hardware is worth it really comes down to your decorating approach and your budget.

'I always advocate for a long-term approach when designing kitchens. My philosophy is simple: buy once, buy well,' says Sarah Snouffer, of Third Street Architecture, who generally recommends opting for something higher quality.

'Investing in well-made, timeless materials ensures a kitchen that not only looks beautiful but also stands the test of time. Hardware is another key detail – good-quality handles in aged brass or bronze will withstand daily use and add a sense of craftsmanship,' she adds.

However, if you are working on a tighter budget, hardware is one area where you can choose a more affordable design without losing the aesthetic you desire. While they might not last a lifetime like more expensive options, places like Amazon, Target, and Wayfair offer good quality at a more affordable price point.

'Cabinet hardware is an area where you can opt for high-quality, affordable options that complement your design without the need for luxury finishes. These savings allow you to allocate your budget toward more impactful areas of the kitchen,' says Vyanca Soto, owner and principal designer at Market Studio Interiors.

It might be small in size, but cabinet hardware has a bigger impact on your kitchen than you might think. The right hardware can make a room more expensive, while the wrong choices can instantly date your scheme, so look out for kitchen hardware mistakes to avoid.
