Every spring, as the mercury rises, I finally throw the covers off my outdoor furniture, set up the parasol, and put out my most comfortable outdoor cushions. Then, a sudden, unexpected downpour, or a misty morning fog, drenches them all.

But I have a small backyard and no space for a bulky storage bin, so I am very pleased to have spotted the chic outdoor LAGASKAER IKEA coffee table, which is purpose-built for outdoor use and has a spacious hidden storage space in the middle.

If you have a small backyard, as I do, you won’t want to sacrifice precious floor space for ugly storage bins. That’s why I particularly love the multifunctionality of this chic outdoor coffee table. Its tabletop lifts off to reveal a spacious storage area underneath, protecting items from sunlight, rain, and humidity.

It’s the ideal spot for packing away your hosting or relaxing essentials and tucking away your comfortable patio cushions, available at Amazon. The table measurements see it reach 16.5 inches high, be 29 ⅛ at its widest (the tray top), and have a base taper of 19 ⅝ inches.

That will give you just shy of 34 gallons of storage space, which is enough for your seat cushions, children’s toys, sun cream, and clean, dry outdoor tableware.

It’s durable too, with the tray top made of galvanized steel with a polyester powder coating. The base is made of hardy polypropylene, with a minimum of 20% recycled materials. This type of plastic is particularly heat-resistant and stands up well to the elements, meaning you’re not likely to see the chic matte finish fade or look tired after a summer under the sun.

To clean this outdoor furniture, simply wipe with a damp cloth. As it’s past the minimum IKEA delivery threshold, you should be able to have it delivered straight to your home, dependent on the item's availability in your area.

What Shoppers Say

At the time of writing, 118 IKEA shoppers have rated this outdoor coffee table an average of 4.6/5 stars.

Many are using it as intended, on their deck or in their yard. One shopper, Elizabeth, gave it five stars and said, ‘Amazing. It is useful for storage, spacious, and looks unique.;

Another, Klara, who also gave it five stars, adds, ‘I love the storage space of this table. I store seat cushions inside, protecting them from weather conditions when not in use. Easy to open and close. A good amount of serving surface on the table top. A practical item.’

Others have found alternative uses for it, with shopper Yousef using it as a planter.

Claudia, who gave it three stars, points out something useful to know about the design. She explains that it’s ‘great except for the holes’.

In her on-site review, she says, ‘I love the look of this table and the fact that it provides a lot of storage. However, it comes with a lot of holes in the bottom, which I assume are for drainage in the event water gets in. I'm terrified of an insect/snake/rat crawling up there and making a nest, so I taped the holes shut until I can find a better solution.’

I will also be plugging the gaps as the lid is wider than the base, meaning rain should not get in from the top. In a pinch, use strong packing tape on the inside and check it regularly to ensure it has stayed in place.

My go-to choice for filling plastic cracks and holes, however, is Quick Leak Repair Epoxy Putty, from Amazon, which can be used on hard plastic and many other materials, plus it’s waterproof.

For such a stylish and useful yard item, this is a minor snag and easy to fill, should you wish to.
