Anna Last is the US Editorial Director of Homes & Gardens. She loves finding and telling stories about tastemakers who live beautifully. Anna has worked in lifestyle media and retail creative her whole career, including Martha Stewart, Vogue Living, Williams-Sonoma, and Restoration Hardware. Her style blends a US East Coast vibe with Australian sensibility and English charm – shaped by a childhood on a sheep farm and years spent building brands and interiors that feel stylish, personal, and lived-in. You’ll usually find Anna cooking (think bold Ottolenghi-style flavors with simple ingredients), styling a small vignette with home-picked flowers, or pottering in the garden. Her current project is The Old Stables – a two-acre farmhouse on Long Island’s North Fork that’s also a vacation rental and event space. For her, the magic is in the details – no matter how small or large. Whether it’s swapping out doorknobs, designing a pergola inspired by a trip to Puglia, Italy, or hosting events at the stables, she starts with a vision, and often figures it out as she goes, though always with intention. Her garden heroes are Paul Bangay, Piet Oudolf, and her grandmother. Anna admires her sense of form, texture, and color with seemingly effortless combinations. Alongside Homes & Gardens, Anna runs a creative and brand business, and she regularly shares stories from The Old Stables – recipes, and design ideas, and celebrates chic simplicity for beautiful living – on her Substack, From The Old Stables.
