America Ferrera's eye-candy sofa is a fitting tribute to one of her most famous roles

The Barbie actress tapped into the trend fueled by her most recent film, and it's one of the most elegant twists to date

The power of Barbie needs no introduction. The Greta Gerwig-directed phenomenon sparked 2023's most talked-about trend, Barbiecore, which, again, needs no long explanation. However, as the movie continues to top design discussions and win big at ceremonies (most recently, the People's Choice Awards), it's fair to say this look is unlikely to waver. So, how can we practice Barbiecore tastefully? Barbie's very own America Ferrera has the answer.

America (or Gloria, as she's known in the aforementioned film) chose a powder pink couch that's elegant enough to push Barbirecore haters to recant. Unlike the brighter tone we associate with Barbie's Dream House, America's chosen hue is notably more understated and, consequently, versatile enough to work in her neutral living space.

This toned-down twist on the classic makes decorating with pink more accessible – proving it's possible to get behind the design trend without overpowering our space.

America's couch is large (and striking) enough to act as a statement piece, but it doesn't detract from her other design elements, including her artwork and textured rug that adds further interest to her room. It's a look that hasn't gone unnoticed by design expert Tara Gilson, who encourages us to follow this more understated pink lead.

'When embracing pink, it is always wise to choose lighter tones; brash pink (while perhaps currently on trend) can be a little too ostentatious or OTT,' she begins. 'Subtle powder pinks, when paired correctly with other furniture and [neutral] walls, can create a cozy atmosphere perfect for an elegant pink living room.'

For the best of Barbiecore, Tara recommends pairing our muted pink sofa with soft metallics for a quietly luxurious look that is fashionable enough to transcend trends.

'Hints of brass and gold (mirror or window frames, cupboard handles, sofa legs, etc.) can also help bring out the luxury in a room vibe when partnered with a soft pink palette,' she says. 'For a more modern look, darker pinks such as raspberry on a feature wall can also really help a room achieve that eclectic new-age feel that the fashion industry is already forging ahead with.'
