Jennifer Garner's home office is the most calming shade of gray – we found a perfect color match
The actress's minimal home office is painted light gray which experts say is an ideal shade for a work environment thanks to its serene properties
Gray paint is a go-to interior color for many of us, striking a happy medium between black and white. Lighter shades in particular can evoke a serene ambiance; so what better place to incorporate gray than a home office?
Jennifer Garner recently revealed her home office on her Instagram page, and we couldn't help but admire the soft, gray color scheme that covers her walls and cabinets. In the clip, we can see that Garner has opted to pair her gray palette with a wooden desk and some framed signs as accessories against the back wall. It's a space that is both conducive to productivity and calmness, and it's giving us some home office ideas.
According to experts, decorating with gray is a perfect fit for any space within the home where you want to create a quiet atmosphere. 'Gray is inherently calming, providing a serene canvas that can transform any room into a peaceful retreat,' says designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'Its subtlety allows for a restful environment, perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, and even home offices where focus and relaxation are paramount. Lighter shades of gray evoke a sense of spaciousness and airiness, enhancing natural light and making small spaces feel more open and inviting.'

She continues, ' On the other hand, darker grays introduce drama and intimacy, ideal for creating cozy, cocoon-like environments that envelop you in comfort.'
When it comes to colors that go with light gray, neutrals are always a safe bet. If you want a modern look, one color is particularly recommended by Lichtenstein. 'For a bold and dramatic statement, combine gray with black,' she says. 'This sophisticated duo adds depth and modernity, perfect for contemporary spaces. Use black accents sparingly to maintain balance and avoid overwhelming the room.'
We can see that Garner has incorporated black accents into her own office, with her laptop pad on her desk, and a black picture frame behind her. It's perfect for making a space feel sleeker.
Alternatively, for those wishing to tap further into the calming office approach, Lichtenstein recommends a sky shade. 'Gray and blue together create a sophisticated and soothing palette,' she says. 'Soft blues bring out the cool undertones of gray, while deeper blues add richness and depth. This pairing works beautifully in bedrooms and bathrooms, evoking a coastal decor or serene spa-like ambiance.'

We love how this pure, neutral gray applies easily and is washable.
We recommend using texture and a variety of finishes into a gray home office to maintain visual interest. Try incorporating a metallic trash can, or a tufted, cream rug on the floor to prevent the space from looking too flat. If you are looking to Jennifer Garner's home for inspiration, you are probably on the right track.
