Yes, a Home Gym Can Be Chic – Victoria Beckham's Sage Green Space Shows How To Elevate Any Fitness Room
The fashion mogul's gym is ultra-stylish – designers explain how to replicate her technique with lighting, layout, and paint
When looking for inspiration on how to make a home gym chic, what better place to turn than the house of a fashion designer who also loves to work out? David and Victoria Beckham's sage green space demonstrates that a gym doesn't have to be purely functional. In fact, it can be quite stylish.
We spotted Victoria's home gym idea in a recent Instagram post, where she is doing pull-ups on their upper body machine. In the background, windows flood the room with light, emphasizing the prettily paneled sage green walls and hardwood floors. David and Victoria have positioned a black and white runner rug down the center of the room to ground the space. The second slide in the Instagram carousel shows a wooden sideboard, perfect for storing weights and other workout equipment out of sight.
As wellness in design becomes a greater focus, demand for home gyms, especially home gyms that look beautiful, will only increase. So, what lessons can we take from Victoria Beckham's home? Homes & Gardens spoke with interior designers to get to the bottom of it. We also curated an edit of our favorite chic gym equipment and accessories to build a Beckham-inspired space.

A full-length mirror is essential for checking your form in any home gym, but who says it has to be boring? Made from resin reinforced with engineered hardwood and mirrored glass, this mirror is designed to lean against a wall, adding instant character while visually opening up a room. A true statement piece that doesn’t try too hard.
If you're not planning to repaint, a sage colored rug is a great way to bring this color into your fitness room. This Persian-inspired rug is woven with dark sage and beige tones, perfect for grounding any space. Victoria uses a black and white rug, but this is a great alternative for tying the color palette together.
Victoria and David use a dark wood sideboard for storage and style, and this credenza from Wayfair is the perfect option. It would look so stylish with sage walls as we see in the Beckhams' space.
Making a home gym stylish requires stylish equipment, and there's nothing cooler than a good-looking reformer. I love the wood and black design, which would add a natural touch to any home gym.

Bala is known for their functional yet stylish workout equipment, and this beige kettleball is the perfect example. Left out, it can still be an eye-catching objet d'art.
To make your home gym feel expensive, the most important lesson we can take from Victoria Beckham's space is to focus on lighting. Alina Enache, Design Expert at Lamp Genius explains: 'The lighting has been kept simple but effective by combining architectural lighting and decorative lighting. Pinpoint ceiling spots have been placed strategically throughout the gym's main workout area, so it only lights the areas that are needed, and the main focus has been left to the chic-looking white pendant lights in the back of the room, which are clustered and hang at different heights. Many home gyms are designed to be very bright, whilst Victoria's gym has chosen the opposite. By combining decorative with functional lighting, it has created a very stylish space.'
The key is keeping the lighting warm, rather than the white light you'd see at a commercial gym. Interior designer and CEO of Solis Painting, Alan Solis adds: 'Recessed and track lighting help to create a dramatic and airy atmosphere without using fluorescent bulbs.'
Victoria then chooses a warm, inviting color palette of sage green and wood to decorate her home gym. As opposed to a traditional cream or white, it keeps the space welcoming. Alan advises: 'The walls of sage green color help to pull back the equipment from view, as it provides an organic background against which the black color of the machines stands out as artwork rather than gym machinery. A combination of wood and sage green color is used in order to make it appear luxurious and spa-like instead of sweaty and industrial-looking.'
He continues: 'Oak floors add a warm touch to the cool colors of the green walls and, thus, create a high-class combination similar to what you can see in an upscale hotel.'

Finally, Victoria's home gym demonstrates that layout is as important in a workout space as any other room in the home. Alan unpacks her machine placement, stating: 'The treadmill is reflected off the wall, and there are no machines in the center, so that the floor looks spacious and expensive.'
By using the right lighting, warm colors, and clever placement, you can have a Victoria Beckham-worthy gym in any home.
