Zooey Deschanel's designer-approved window seat is (almost) too good-looking to be functional
The actress' window seat creates the perfect sunlit reading nook – here's why everyone will want this look in 2024
If reading more is one of your New Year's resolutions, building a cozy reading nook is absolutely essential. Photos of Zooey Deschanel's home reveal that the actress has done just that using one clever accessory: a window seat.
The window seat is the ideal cozy spot for reading, soaking up the sun, and lounging, and Zooey's takes it to the next level in a light green velvet with a scalloped back.
Design experts swear by the benefits of this interior design trend. Vivianne Chow, interior designer and co-founder of Viv and Tim Home, states: 'A window seat creates a cozy and inviting feeling in any space and allows you to embrace natural light in a reading nook.'
We can see this versatility in Zooey's space, where the window seat functions as both unconventional dining room seating and a daytime reading nook.

Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens, continues: 'The window seat is a timeless home accessory. Furthermore, interior design in 2024 is all about embracing personal style in interior design. Therefore, creating spaces to celebrate your hobbies like a window seat for someone who loves to read is perfectly on trend.'
Aside from the general benefits of a window seat, designers especially like the material and style of Zooey Deschanel's kitchen seating. Vivianne says: 'The light green cerulean color contrasts the black windows and patterned wallpaper. It’s an unexpected pop of color that brings unique character to Zooey’s home.' This is especially impactful in their vintage Brentwood abode, built in 1938 and designed by the iconic Hollywood architect Gerard Colcord (no less).
The velvet texture of the actress's seating is also appealing to experts. Jennifer adds: 'The softness of the window seat contrasts with Zooey Deschanel and Johnathan Scott's modern table and floral wallpaper, creating a cozy and warm feel.' Vivianne continues: 'The fluting on the window seat creates warmth and texture that adds to the cozy feel of this space.'

If you don't have the time to install a built-in window seat, a velvet storage bench placed under a window can have a similar effect.
Zooey Deschanel's window seat provides much-needed inspiration for interiors in 2024. As per usual, her timeless style puts her far ahead of the trends.
