I'm Desperate to Save Space in My Tiny Kitchen, and These New Folding Joseph Joseph Pans Could be the Answer – They're Sleek, Stackable, and Non-Toxic
Thanks to their clever handle design, Joseph Joseph's new Space Steel range promises to increase your cabinet space by 50% compared to traditional pans

This week, I moved into my first inner city apartment – and while the location is a novelty, the square footage (or lack thereof) is going to take some getting used to.
The biggest challenge is kitchen space: I've spent almost every evening rearranging my cabinets, but I just can't make everything fit. Call it a happy accident, then, that I heard about the launch of of Joseph Joseph's new cookware collection: a space-saving, non-toxic and oven-safe range that could be the answer to my storage woes.
The aptly named Space Steel collection promises to save up to 50% of your storage space (compared to traditional pans), while rivalling some of the best non-toxic cookware on the market. With foldable handles, nesting lids, and durable steel construction, each pan is both sleek and practical. So practical, in fact, that I'm seriously tempted to do away with all my bulky pans and replace them with the Space Steel six-piece folding handle saucepan set.
I must admit I was a little wary of the concept of foldable pans, but if there's one thing that Joseph Joseph is renowned for, it's ingenious (and rigorously-tested) designs. Just like the original Space Pans range, Joseph Joseph's new cookware collection is fitted with the brand's signature SwingLock™ handle system, which locks securely while cooking and then flips into the pan for easy storage. So safety whilst cooking isn't a concern.
Another confession: I'm a recent convert to non-toxic stainless steel pans. Now that I've tried them, I hardly cook with anything else. As our Kitchen Appliances Editor, Lydia Hayman, explains: 'Stainless steel is a favorite for professional chefs and keen home cooks since it's safe, lightweight, practical and oven-compatible.'
According to Lydia, avid cooks will also love the Space Steel pans' three-ply construction, which is paired with an aluminum center. 'The bonded design is a great fit for home cooks as it rewards techniques like searing, deglazing, or reducing,' she says. 'The aluminum core ensures fast, even heat distribution, while the 3-ply stainless steel construction delivers durability and responsiveness on all cooktops, including induction.'
It seems I'm not the only one impressed by the space-saving technology, either. 'As a cookware editor, I’ve tested more pots and pans than I can count,' Lydia reflects. 'My cupboards are stacked (awkwardly!) with all kinds of gear, so I really appreciate a collection that saves space without compromising on quality.'

In true Joseph Joseph style, every detail has been considered. 'One smart detail is the lids,' adds Lydia. 'Often, space-saving cookware skips them altogether, but here, Joseph Joseph’s flat, nesting lids ensure you don’t sacrifice performance for storage.'
I can't ask for much more than that – and I'm hopeful that Joseph Joseph's new cookware collection will not only help me create restaurant-quality dishes, but also save me from my kitchen cabinet nightmares.
A trained chef, Lydia is already trying to get her hands on some to test, so she can give you her honest opinion about how they perform, too.

It might be an investment, but this handsome set could transform your entire cookware setup. 'It's a full, functional set: three saucepans with lids, two fry pans, and stackable covers that lock in moisture and flavor without taking up extra space,' says Lydia.
While I'd love to get my hands on every piece in the Space Steel range, bringing five new pans into my tiny kitchen doesn't seem like the wisest idea – so I'll be starting with this handy fry pan.
'If I could only buy one piece from the collection, it would be this,' Lydia states. 'A sauté pan is endlessly versatile; I use mine for recipes like seared chicken thighs, risottos and pasta dishes, and one-pot wonders.'
Feeling intimidated by stainless steel pans? They can take some practice – but according to Lydia's Caraway Sauté Pan review, this is a great place to start.
