Some cookware earns a place in my kitchen not because it’s flashy or expensive, but because it just works – and keeps working for decades. The Lodge classic cast iron skillet is one of those rare pieces. A true workhorse and some of the best cast iron cookware that, when cared for properly, will last a lifetime, literally, and then some.

And if you think that's going to cost you, there's no need to shell out your life savings to get one. Lodge is running discounts all through August, so their 10.5-inch cast-iron skillet is on sale for just $24 today.

With roots dating back to 1896, Lodge operates two foundries in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, where the brand was founded and continues to produce quality cast iron cookware – like this skillet. I recommend the 10-inch size for family-sized meals.

Lodge has been making cas for well over a century, and it’s long been a darling among both chefs and home cooks for good reason. Their skillets are sturdy, and naturally some of the best non-toxic cookware, as well as being versatile enough to move seamlessly from stovetop to oven to campfire.

Unlike affordable non-stick pans, which are everywhere right now (read my Sensarte cookware review, if you want a specific example), this cast iron skillet only gets better with age – it won’t need replacing after months or years of regular use.

Don't be intimidated by cast iron if you’re used to non-stick – I find it just as easy to use. This particular Lodge classic cast iron skillet comes pre-seasoned, meaning it’s already coated in a thin layer of oil that you just need to top up after every use to create a low-stick surface that improves over time.

Cast iron retains heat like nothing else, making it a great searing partner if you’re looking to master steak. I also use mine to whip up a reliable batch of fluffy pancakes every weekend; they release so easily, without a ton of mess to clean off afterwards. A cast-iron Lodge pan also transitions seamlessly to the oven, and the size and weight feel just right for everyday use.

Finally, you’re getting all of this at a fraction of the cost of other cast iron brands. While premium options like the Field Company cast iron skillet can cost over $100 more, this pan delivers solid performance without breaking the bank. If you do want something smoother, lighter, and more Instagram-worthy, the Field Company pan is lovely, but for sheer value, this Lodge skillet is hard to beat.

More affordable heirloom-style cookware I love

If you like the vintage vibes of the cast iron Lodge pan and appreciate quality materials without an eye-watering price tag, I think you'll like my expert-approved finds.

If you need a new pan and you don't want to overspend, the cast iron Lodge pan is a no-brainer. Skip the cheap non-stick pans on Amazon, try it, and let me know what you think. If you're anything like me, you'll be dreaming of collecting the best cast iron cookware and passing it down to the grandkids in no time.
