Investing in one of the best fire pits is guaranteed to transform your summer entertaining, and there are plenty of dishes you can cook on a fire pit. Nothing beats the classic combination of marshmallow and chocolate, of course – at least until you try some savory s'mores.
I was hesitant at first: I'm always up for experimenting with recipes, but a savory twist on such a nostalgic summer treat had me curious. It turns out that savory s'mores are simply an inventive take on charcuterie – and they're the perfect addition to a fireside al fresco supper menu. From brie and prosciutto to salami and hot honey, these are the top savory s'mores recipes to check out before the summer ends.
Ingredients
- Pizza s'mores: Ritz crackers, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, basil leaves
- Sweet & spicy brie: Crostini, brie bites, prosciutto, hot honey
- New York deli: Bagel chips, whole grain mustard, pickles, Swiss cheese, salami
- Cheese & fig: Melba toasts, fig jam, brie
- Italian-style: Olive crackers, fontina, spicy salami, black olives
- Classic gouda: Artisan crackers, gouda, red pepper jelly
- Crispy bacon: Cheese crisps, bacon, camembert
- Ploughman's twist: Water crackers, cheddar, apple chutney
Method
- Assemble all of the ingredients beside your fire pit. I like to thinly slice the meats and cheeses and lay out the crackers on a charcuterie board so that guests can mix and match their fillings.
- Spread toppings and chutneys on your crackers of choice.
- Place your preferred cheese on a skewer and heat until it's soft but it still holds its shape.
- Sandwich the cheese between the prepared crackers and finish with dips (like hot honey) if desired.

A good set of skewers are a campfire must-have. These are complete with non-toxic stainless steel prongs and colorful wooden handles.
A long wooden serving board is ideal for setting out your s'mores crackers and fillings – I love that this one features practical handles and an elegant curved edge.
My guests are always wowed by these cheese knives – they might be under $40, but the sleek marble handles look designer.
I'll be making the most of the long summer nights by trying out a few of these recipes at my next outdoor evening party. (Thankfully, I'm finally clued up on the best way to light a fire pit.
