Sherry cosmopolitan
This sherry cosmopolitan is a lighter take on the classic cocktail, perfect for spring gatherings when you want something zesty and bright

This sherry cosmopolitan is a more refreshing version of the classic favorite, served over crushed ice for a cooler, longer drink. The dry fino sherry adds a subtle sharpness that balances the sweetness of cranberry and orange liqueur, while fresh lime gives it the brightness that makes it feel perfect for spring, or as part of an Easter menu.
Use a good-quality cranberry juice with no added sugar. Let the main mix chill with a few ice cubes to take the edge off the alcohol without watering it down too much. Serve over crushed ice for extra texture and to keep it cold without needing a shaker.
If you’d like a variation, try swapping the cranberry for pomegranate juice or using a splash of grapefruit instead of lime for a more bitter twist. For a non-alcoholic version, mix cranberry juice with a splash of orange juice and soda water, then finish with lime.
Ingredients
- Serves 6
- 1½ cups cranberry juice
- ¼ cup dry fino sherry
- 1 cup vodka
- 1 cup Cointreau
- 2 limes, plus 1 lime cut into 6 wedges
- 6–7 ice cubes
- Crushed ice
The Homes & Gardens method
1. In a large pitcher, combine the cranberry juice, sherry, vodka, and Cointreau. Wayfair has a classic pitcher and six highball set that's perfect.
2. Squeeze in the juice of the two whole limes and stir well.
3. Add the ice cubes and let sit until the ice melts.
4. Keep chilled until ready to serve.
5. Fill six glasses halfway with crushed ice. Pour in the chilled cocktail and garnish each glass with a lime wedge. Give each glass a gentle stir and serve.
Light cocktails make an elegant addition with which to welcome guests, and a nice alternative to wine or Champagne. We also have a wonderful apple and elderflower martini recipe if you'd like an alternative.
