Revealed: Etsy’s Color of the Year 2022
Green is going nowhere – Etsy predicts this powerful hue will remain big news in the year ahead
Looking for a new year refresh? Etsy’s Color of the Year 2022 is the place to begin. The e-commerce company has forecast that Emerald Green will continue its interior design domination throughout 2022 – so you can paint in confidence.
How can you be sure that the power of Emerald Green will prevail? While this tone has already influenced interior design trends over recent months, Etsy reveals that its appeal shows no sign of slowing down.
‘Symbolizing harmony and growth, along with royalty and refinement, emerald green is the perfect color to remind us to find balance this year,’ explains Etsy’s Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson. With this in mind, the site recently observed a surge in searches for emerald green items (up 64%) whilst searches for emerald green decor also rose by up 60%.
According to Dayna, the craving for a balanced life remains a priority as we conclude another year 'filled with ups and downs'. The color perfectly embodies the concept of ‘Lagom’ – which Danya explains ‘ translates to ‘not too much, not too little’ or ‘just the right amount.’
‘I anticipate shoppers will embrace Lagom as they look to live their lives with balance and moderation in mind,’ she adds.
Plus, there is a reason why this therapeutic yet rich shade is set to remain at the peak of paint trends for 2022. While emerald green makes a statement when standing alone, it similarly works alongside a range of varying colorways.
From ‘earthy terracottas and neutrals’ to ‘luxe golds and silvers,’ Dayna emphasizes the colors range – before adding that it is ‘easy to add into existing decor.’ And, beyond the paint world, emerald green will continue to enrich other areas of the home.

For a stylish starting point, Dayna recommends investing in an emerald knot floor cushion that celebrates Etsy’s color of the year in all its glory. For a subtler alternative, she also suggests the Esme Hexy ring dish or these vintage tumblers that will complement your tablescape in the year ahead.
With its ability to work in any scheme, we expect this verdant shade to set color trends long into the new year.
