IKEA’s Most Versatile Outdoor Lamp Is About to Be Gone for Good – Why Everyone is Buying the LÄNSPORT While They Still Can
Beloved for bringing coziness just about anywhere, now's your chance to join the little legend's swan song
Let’s pretend you’re taking one of those bubblegum magazine quizzes we used to obsess over as teens. Question one: indoors or outdoors? Two: up or down? Three: tree or table? If you answered any combination of the above, we can’t tell you your celebrity crush or most flattering fragrance, but there’s a good chance IKEA’s LÄNSPORT LED lamp is the lighting for you.
Because it does everything. Being a portable light, this little IKEA light is just as cozy in a bathroom as it is on a balcony. It can be carried by the handle like a sculptural clutch and set down on a tabletop, indoors or out. Alternatively, that same handle can loop itself onto less-expected spots, like the side of a stair railing in a tiny backyard or a tree branch in a larger one. And when you get bored, flip it upside down for an entirely different minimalist look. Arguably one of IKEA’s most versatile lighting designs in recent memory, which begs the question: why on earth is it being discontinued?
IKEA’s LÄNSPORT offers six hours of battery life (you’ll need one of these four-packs), which means plenty of time for lingering outdoors after dark. Rated 4.3 stars.
That’s right. The dreaded ‘Last Chance’ label has appeared beneath this fan-favorite listing, meaning when the existing stock is gone, it’s gone. We don’t know why bad things happen to chic, design-minded people, but we can only assume IKEA is busy engineering the next Scandi-coded object we’ll all attach ourselves to. Who knows, maybe the LÄNSPORT will eventually join the ranks of those rare IKEA pieces now selling for thousands at auction.
History suggests IKEA’s best pieces only get cooler with age. With its clever flip-flop design offering two looks and even more uses in one, the LÄNSPORT feels destined for the same fate.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Summer is coming, and this little flip-flopping lamp makes ambience possible pretty much anywhere. ‘These are absolutely fabulous,’ writes one reviewer.
‘I bring them out when eating on the patio furniture and, even better, I let the kids use them when they’re playing outside, and it starts to get a bit dark,' citing the LÄNSPORT's 'incredibly magical, soft, yellow glow,' and lightweight construction. 'I am so disappointed they are discontinuing them!’
IKEA's LÄNSPORT LED Lamp was here for a good time, not a long time, so scoop one up before it disappears.
Us too. Grab this lighting legend while you still can.
How I'd Style It
From the English countryside to the New York City streets where I currently write, our team is already adding these LÄNSPORT lamps to cart. Here’s how I’d style a patio around them this summer – a little farewell party for IKEA’s latest design casualty.

If you haven’t yet caught wind of the cultural phenomenon that is The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026), just know that not turquoise, not lapis, but cerulean is seeing a second coming. Bring fashion’s most infamous shade outdoors to set the tone for this iconic send-off.
What’s a garden party without flowers? Like the LÄNSPORT, this planter lets you play with orientation, directing greenery to grow horizontally or vertically depending on how and where you mount it.
Shop More Outdoor Lamps
There’s always a chance the LÄNSPORT sells out before you make it here. Thankfully, three fabulous finds scratch a similar itch.
The LÄNSPORT walked so tech-savvy styles like the VAPPEBY could run. This Bluetooth-enabled lamp brings ambience in more ways than one, lighting up tabletops while soundtracking your alfresco evenings with your favorite playlists. Two birds, one much less cluttered outdoor dining table.
A spare hook will do, but if you managed to get your hands on a LÄNSPORT, these outdoor side tables make the chicest possible perch.
