After spending the night at my sister's, I became obsessed with her muslin bedding. Soft, light, airy, and breathable, it lends any bedroom space a relaxed, chic look – but it often doesn't come cheap.
That's why I was thrilled to find the IKEA SCHERSMIN Muslin Duvet Cover, which costs just $69.99, and better yet, it's organic, too.
After systematically evaluating it in my own home, I can confirm that the best bedding doesn't have to be expensive – this little-known gem goes toe-to-toe with my luxury picks, at less than a third of the price.

As the resident Sleep Editor here at Homes & Gardens, I'm lucky enough to test the best of the best luxury bed sheets. From French flax linen to silk-filled comforters, there's no denying that, when it comes to bedding, it's worth investing in your sleep.
However, buying smart can make previously unaffordable luxuries accessible.
After staying at my sister's college apartment in Edinburgh, Scotland, I became obsessed with the look and feel of her muslin bedding. Hers was bought in the UK, at upmarket department store John Lewis, but the IKEA SCHERSMIN Duvet Cover is a lovely alternative, and more affordable, too.

I Tested the IKEA SCHERSMIN Duvet Cover in Muslin
When testing the IKEA SCHERSMIN Duvet Cover, I found myself appreciating it night after night. I'm a true believer that the best bedding really does help you to sleep better. There's something about snuggling down into soft sheets that always feels luxurious – and never gets old.
Balancing that with staying cool as spring weather rolls in can be challenging, which is why organic muslin is a tailored, thoughtful product that ticked all of my boxes.
I opted for the sheets in white, though they're also available in pale green and pale pink, and, from the moment I put them on my bed, loved the way they lent my bedroom a relaxed, lived-in vibe that perfectly offset my busier, more colorful accents.
Aside from looks, the feel is impressively luxe – especially when you consider the price point. That crinkled texture of muslin bedding becomes softer with every wash, which is certainly something I've noticed with mine. These sheets are tumble-dryer safe, too – I added some dryer balls, available at Amazon, for added fluffiness.
The Benefits of Muslin
Due to the loose weave and cotton material, this muslin bedding set is also naturally temperature-regulating, so it helps to keep a bed cool in summer, and is perfect for hot sleepers. I wouldn't recommend it for fall and winter, but for spring and summer, it's ideal, and my favorite material for warmer weather, along with lightweight linens.
And, if shopping for the best organic bedding is top of your priority list, the IKEA SCHERSMIN Duvet Cover is also made from 100 percent organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This makes the $69.99 price tag all the more impressive – and proves you can be more sustainable at home, without breaking the bank.

This muslin bedding proves you don't have to spend big to enjoy cloud-like comfort, and a relaxed, laid-back, textured appearance that makes any space look lived-in, breezy, and effortless.
For more colorful choices, this H&M muslin bedding is available in seven earthy tones. Like the IKEA bedding, it also features concealed metal snap fasteners and two pillowcases with envelope openings.
If you've got a little more to spend, this Bed Threads bedding is my favorite luxurious pick. Made of 100 percent French flax linen, it's buttery soft and breathable, with a signature crisp, clean linen feel.
This organic gauze duvet cover offers that same lived-in look of muslin, and is made of four layers of organic cotton gauze which is pre-washed for extra softness and breathability.
For something a little lighter in spring and summer, these bedsheets, made of 100 percent rayon derived from bamboo, are perfect for hot sleepers. They're also completely free of harmful chemicals and feel cool to the touch.
If you want to avoid the struggle of wrestling a duvet insert into a cover, this BreezeWeave comforter from Brooklinen is ultra-soft, plush, and lightweight, with a textured, colorful look that makes making the bed easier than ever.
If you're having trouble sleeping as the seasons change, consider syncing your internal clock with the Dutch method for sleep.
