An honest review of Homeaglow’s affordable cleaning service – and if I'd try it again

The pros, cons, and everything in between

Would you trust a home cleaning you found through a social media ad? That’s exactly what I wondered when I booked a cleaner through Homeaglow. And on one sunny Wednesday morning, I got to find out firsthand.

Type 'Homeaglow' into your search bar, and the first thing you'll see is, 'Is Homeaglow a scam?' It's understandable why people would think a home-cleaning platform that boasts deals like $19 for your first 3-hour cleaning would be too good to be true. Especially when this discount comes with a $59/month Forever Clean membership, which offers up to 60% off all future cleanings.* Given that a 3-hour cleaning would typically cost well over $100, the membership basically pays for itself after the first appointment. So with the cost savings clear, I decided to try it for myself and write an honest Homeaglow review.

How Homeaglow works

Homeaglow is an online platform that aims to make booking a house cleaner easier and more reliable. If you've ever tried to find a cleaner before, you know it can be hit-or-miss. It's either too expensive or doesn't offer the flexibility your schedule requires.

Based on the reviews I read, it sounds like Homeaglow is designed to be a middle ground between traditional cleaning companies and independent cleaners. Like traditional cleaning companies, there are background checks and a satisfaction guarantee. And like finding an independent cleaner, it offers affordability, transparency, and customization. With that in mind, I set out to see how this innovative cleaning platform stacked up.

Booking my cleaner through Homeaglow

The booking process was simple and straightforward. All you do is choose the services you need, estimate the time based on your home's size, and pick a day. The only real challenge? Getting matched with your preferred cleaner. While you can request favorites, availability may vary, so flexibility is key. My advice: Plan at least a week ahead and provide your maximum availability.

The site also does a good job of guiding you through the process of figuring out how long you need, with prompts that make it easy to determine how many hours to book and what tasks to prioritize.

For instance, I live in a small two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in NYC that hadn't been deep-cleaned since I moved in four months ago. Homeaglow recommended I book a six-hour cleaning to ensure enough time for the cleaner to be thorough. For anyone new to hiring a cleaner, Homeaglow's process helps you feel confident that you're making the right choice. Plus, all of the cleaners on the platform are background-checked and vetted, which is important when you're letting a stranger into your home.

If you're firm on your top-choice cleaner, don't schedule a cleaning the same week you're hosting guests or if you're under tight time constraints. I initially booked a cleaning two days out, but rescheduled for five days later in order to land on a date, time, and cleaner that worked for me. Heather – my assigned cleaner – called to confirm directly, and she was warm, professional, and ready to help.

The only detail that caught me off guard was that she didn’t have a mop, but after a quick trip to the store, we were set. While this didn't bother me, it is something to keep in mind if you're booking with Homeaglow. If you're picky about certain products, it might be a good idea to have those on hand, or search through the cleaners on Homeaglow who highlight using specific products.

My Homeaglow cleaning experience

By the time Wednesday rolled around, I was a little nervous. But my worries disappeared the moment Heather arrived. She was polite, on time (technically early – her GPS just dropped her at the wrong address), and clearly experienced. She walked through my apartment with me and listened carefully as I pointed out the areas that needed extra love. Between living with a giant Bernese Mountain Dog who leaves fur balls everywhere and the dust that seems to accumulate no matter how much I clean, let's just say a good scrub was needed.

Heather's incredible thoroughness stood out. She moved books off of shelves to dust underneath, cleaned those corners we tend to ignore, and had me check each room before moving on. It didn't feel rushed; she really took her time.

The platform is also very transparent about cleaning costs. You can see a cost estimate at checkout based on the cleaner’s hourly rate and the scheduled hours, so you'll always know what to expect before you confirm. The only additional costs are the Forever Clean membership (which unlocks the discounted rates, including that $19 first cleaning) and whatever tip you choose to leave. When it came time to tip and rate, I gave Heather five stars and a tip significantly above the preset amounts because, by the end, my apartment genuinely looked 10x better than before. I appreciate that you can leave reviews and easily show appreciation. When a clean is well done, it deserves to be recognized! The review system is helpful for future bookings since you can read feedback from other customers and feel confident that the cleaner you're choosing has a track record of doing excellent work.

Is Homeaglow worth it? My final verdict

So, is Homeaglow worth it? In my experience, yes. While booking requires some flexibility, the results made it more than worthwhile. To answer the big question: 'Is Homeaglow a scam?' Absolutely not. Once you understand how the membership works, the pricing is clear, the process is straightforward, and the service itself delivers. Someone showed up, did an excellent job, and left my home dramatically cleaner.

Would I try it again? Definitely – as long as I’m not under a super tight time constraint. For an affordable, effective cleaning that leaves your home noticeably better, Homeaglow is a great option.

*Cancel anytime. If membership is canceled before 6 months, the first cleaning will be charged at full price.
