As an asthma and allergy sufferer, I couldn't live without my air purifier, but that hasn't stopped me from resenting how much space my bulky appliance takes up at home.

But IKEA has launched a subtle, minimalist solution that hides in plain sight: The IKEA STARKVIND air purifying table. Designed to blend into your space with dual functionality, it would work equally as well as a living room side table as it would a bedside table.

The IKEA STARKVIND is the perfect blend of style and function. By bringing the air purifier into a side table, which would look just as good in a living room as it would next to your bedside, you're not compromising on the huge benefits of air purification, but the space that's taken up can still be used to add to your interior and adorn your space.

I say this as a sufferer of asthma and allergies, as I feel these benefits every day at home. Air purifiers improve our indoor air quality by removing particles from household allergens like pollen and dander, as well as odors and pollution.

The IKEA STARKVIND can purify spaces up to 215 square feet, with a particle filter that is optimized to filter approximately 99.5% of smaller airborne particles such as dust and pollen.

And if paired with the $35 IKEA STARKVIND gas filter, the table will also be able to remove odors and harmful gases found in household substances, such as formaldehyde and the VOCs that can come from cleaning sprays, as well as outdoor smog and tobacco smoke.

Improving air quality at home benefits your health and well-being, and it isn't just about 'breathing cleaner', but removing damaging pollutants from your indoor air. This can result in healthier lungs, clearer skin, fewer viruses being spread, and reduced impact from the outdoor air pollution that can creep indoors when we start opening up windows at length in balmy spring weather.

And as it looks so stylish as a bedside table, the IKEA STARKVIND is the kind of smart tech that can improve your sleep. I use my air purifier every night, and I rarely wake up congested or with asthma flare-ups, but unfortunately, I've had to dedicate a significant portion of my bedroom to a bulky appliance that really stands out from the rest of my interior.

So, to have finally found one that can blend into my space so seamlessly is a major win.

To blend into your space naturally, you can hide the cable in one of the table legs, and the control is a subtle dial at the side of the table. Unless it's turned up to full, most people probably wouldn't even notice it's an appliance.

The STARKVIND Air Purifying Table is available at IKEA US and IKEA UK.
