Having dust blow back into your face every time you're emptying it is more than just a nuisance. It triggers allergy symptoms by exposing you to all the dust, dander and pesky allergens you've just spent time removing from your floors.
The Shark PowerDetect Cordless Clean & Empty System, currently discounted by $150, takes care of this problem. It comes with a charging station that empties all the dust and stores it in a HEPA-sealed container, meaning you won't have to empty it yourself for more than a month at a time.
And dust-retention aside, it happens to be one of our best vacuums for powerful, lightweight cleaning across the whole house.
Shark Cordless PowerDetect Clean & Empty System | was $549.99, now $399.99 at SharkNinja (save $150)
Storing dust for up to 45 days, this massively reduces exposure to symptom-inducing allergens, and it's powerful enough to banish them from carpets and hard floors.

This Cordless Shark Vacuum Stores Dust for You
With a self-emptying dustbin and strong suction across different floor types, the Cordless PowerDetect is a savior for allergy sufferers (and dust haters).
After finishing vacuuming with the Shark Cordless PowerDetect, you place it onto the Clean & Empty System, and all the contents are instantly sucked out. It's loud, but afterwards the vacuum cleaner is empty, free of the dust mites, pet dander, and other household allergens that trigger symptoms.
Cordless vacuums bring a great deal of convenience, making cleaning easier with their lighter weight and taking up less space, but there's a trade-off in dustbin capacity. Cordless sticks rarely hold as much debris as corded upright vacuums, but with this Shark, you'll be emptying it far less often than you would with a traditional bulky vacuum cleaner.
It brings an extra layer of convenience, and luckily, the self-cleaning station isn't glass sealed (as other cordless vacuums such as the Tineco Pure One Station have done), so you don't have to worry about a visible, steadily growing mound of hair and dirt as the weeks go on.
But importantly, a vacuum needs more than convenience; it needs to be able to clean easily and effectively. The Shark Cordless PowerDetect is one of the most powerful cordless vacuums we've tested, on test picking up everything from fine powder to large debris in virtually one pass.
The results were strong on carpet, too, which is rare for a cordless stick. 'I used this vacuum on the carpet in a room where our cat likes to spend most of her time, and it pulled up a good amount of hair out of the carpet that I didn’t even see,' tester James Holland wrote in his review.
This is key when it comes to battling allergies. Carpets are a hotspot for trapped dust and dander, and if your vacuum cleaner is unable to pick up the fur that embeds within the carpet fibers, there'll be a persistent layer of allergens on your floors at all times. Pet dander clings to strands of hair, so to get rid of symptoms, you need to be able to get rid of the hair, hence the need for the best vacuums for pet hair.
More generally, this cordless Shark vacuum also boasts fancy smart tech. It detects the floor type, the amount of dirt, the direction you're vacuuming, and whether you're near edges, to then automatically adjust the suction power so it's at the right level. It's a feature popularized by Dyson's vacuums, like the best-on-test Dyson V15 Detect, and makes cleaning your home much easier as it removes the guesswork and the fiddly task of changing the settings while you move throughout the house.
So, the Shark Cordless PowerDetect is more than an allergy savior; it banishes all messes from every floor type, and comes with a suite of features that make cleaning your home easier than before. And with $150 off? That's a no-brainer.
The Shark Cordless PowerDetect Clean & Empty System is discounted to $399.99 at SharkNinja.

For $100 less than the Shark PowerDetect, this vacuum's cleaning station holds more dust (up to 60 days, compared to the Shark's 45), and when I tested it, I loved how well it handled vacuuming hair without tangling or struggling.

This canister vacuum uses vacuum bags so that all dust and debris are entirely self-contained, and you don't have to expose yourself to allergens even when you're disposing of them. And looking beyond dust retention, this is the best-performing vacuum we've ever tested, and at Walmart, it's $100s cheaper than the $899 retail price.

If your home doesn't have any rugs or carpets, the Guard M1 Parquet XL is your answer, and it uses vacuum bags so you'll never have to touch or breathe in any dust again. I tested it only two weeks ago, and it was the most effortless hard floor vacuum I've ever used.

With an impressive 100-minute runtime, this Samsung vacuum also has a station that charges and empties the vacuum for you, as well as adaptive suction after sensing what surface it's vacuuming. It's essentially a fancier and more powerful version of the Shark PowerDetect, but more expensive.

The Dreame H14 Pro vacuums and mops at the same time, meaning that all dust and debris collected combines with the water used to wash your floors. When you empty it, dust doesn't blow back into your face at all – it's such a nifty system that it has halved how long it takes me to clean my floors at home.

To reduce your exposure to dust even further, a robot vacuum will pull it from your floors as often as multiple times a day, depositing it into a cleaning station that can store it for weeks at a time before you need to empty it. This Yeedi model is one of our favorites that costs below $1,000.
