Despite the high price point, I'm a long-term lover of Diptyque's Roses scent – it's fresh, delicate, and effortlessly romantic, and the one I always go for when buying a candle to gift a friend.
That being said, as beautiful as it is, there's no denying that $78 for a candle is certainly not cheap. That's why I went on the hunt for a more affordable swap and spotted the Yankee Candle in Fresh Cut Roses, available at Amazon. It has a host of glowing five-star reviews from shoppers who love its scent. I am also a big fan of the quality candles they make so affordably, having tested many myself in the past.
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I'd wager that it's one of the best home fragrance picks for gifting (if you're after a more affordable pick than Diptyque), or for treating yourself this February.
This $15 Candle Is Perfect for Valentine's Day
All prices were correct at the time of publication.
As I said, I love Diptyque and their candles (Feu de Bois made the cut in my tried and tested guide to the best candles), so I was definitely excited to spot the new limited-edition Roses Classic Candle, available at Diptyque, which is also Kim Kardashian's favorite scented candle.
The Skims' owner and reality TV star uses Diptique's Roses scent to make her famously minimalist home smell amazing, according to her assistant, who confirmed the heritage fragrancing brand was among Kim's favorites.
Megan Slack, celebrity style expert at Homes & Gardens, explains, 'Diptyque is a cult favorite among the world’s most famous figures (Kate Hudson, Victoria Beckham, and Beyoncé sit among its admirers), but Kim’s choice, Roses, is arguably the most classic. It’s the perfect match for her minimalist home, where subtle neutrals reign supreme.

'If I were to pair any scent with such a minimalist aesthetic, it’d be Roses. The scent is just as timeless as the style, and proof that design sensibilities and scents really do go hand in hand. Kim could have her choice of any candle, and she returns to this – that’s all the confirmation we need.'
But I have to say that Yankee Candle is definitely up there, too. I've used and loved the Yankee Candle Clean Cotton Scented Candle, available on Amazon, which also made its way into the aforementioned guide, and I always appreciate its strength and affordability, as well as the others I've tried from the brand.
For that reason, I was excited to spot the Yankee Candle in Fresh Cut Roses, available at Amazon, as an easy way to enjoy the most romantic scents for the home at less than a fifth of the price of the Diptyque option, and even more so than the limited-edition version, which costs $88.
During testing, I've found that the scent throw of Yankee candles is unbelievably impressive for the price point, and they also burn really cleanly, with minimal, if any, candle tunneling. Just make sure you burn all the way out to the edge of the vessel on the first burn.
The only thing to note is that I do tend to notice the wax melts and vaporizes a little quicker than other alternatives. Luckily, with a 150-hour burn time, that's not something you'll have to worry about with this affordable swap.
They're also made with premium plant-based wax and a natural-fiber wick, making the $14.99 Yankee Candle in Fresh Cut Roses, available at Amazoneven more impressive.
What Shoppers Love About The Fresh Cut Roses Yankee Candle
The Yankee Candle in Fresh Cut Roses, available at Amazon, recreates the scent of a vase of fresh roses and is perfect for Valentine's Day gifting.
As one recent five-star review from Joyceanne Flanagan assures, this candle is 'beautifully scented.'
'I have enjoyed the scent of these Yankee Candles Fresh Cut Roses for years now,' they write. 'Strongly scented, I keep the candle in the living room, but you can smell it through the first floor. Genuine smell of fresh roses...Enjoy, you will not be disappointed.'
Another, from Wendy Poma, dubs it 'perfect,' and details how the scent is subtle, and the candle lasts a long time, while a third from Elaine Thomas, adds that it 'smells just like three dozen pink roses!'
I personally think there's nothing better than enjoying the soft scent of the best fragrant roses on Valentine's Day and year-round, and this candle makes the perfect long-lasting accompaniment. I'm adding it straight to my basket.

Affordable, long-lasting, and currently $10 off, this Yankee Candle is a brilliant budget-friendly option for gifting or enjoying this Valentine's Day. The soft pink wax is a nice touch, too, for adding a touch of romantic color to your space.
This hand-finished rose candle pick from Neom features three wicks for an even burn across the surface of the candle, and is made with a natural blend of 11 essential oils and extracts like rose, geranium, and orange.
This special release of Diptyque's Rose candle is absolutely beautiful, and makes a stunning gift if you've got a little more to spend. It's available in a larger size, too, and both sizes of vessel are perfect for reusing candle jars around your house.
This rose-scented candle is made with vegan soy wax and comes in a beautiful glass vessel. It's also free from formaldehyde, sulfates, phthalates, pesticides, and parabens.
I'm a huge fan of Malin+Goetz, and this scent is so fresh and a little more of a unique take on the traditional scent profile, with notes of cardamom, clove, black pepper, and moss. The Malin+Goetz candles burn amazingly evenly and cleanly.
This candle is delicately rose water-scented, while the softly colored frosted glass creates a premium spa-like feel. The addition of the wood-grain lid helps the scent to last even longer between burns.
Candles are only one of the quick ways to make your home smell nice – you can also use wax melts, such as Shortie's Highly-Scented True Rose melts on Amazon, incense, and linen sprays.
