Previously the features editor at Homes & Gardens, I went freelance in 2017 and continue to write for the magazine, as well as Country Homes & Interiors, 25 Beautiful Homes, Grand Designs and other luxury brand in-house magazines. I’m also studying acting part-time at the prestigious London drama school, Rose Bruford.
My specialist subjects
I studied art history, including furniture design and architecture, at the University of St Andrews, so my knowledge of aesthetic trends and their cultural significance, from Baroque to Bauhaus, is deeply rooted. On practical and stylish tips and interior design solutions for day-to-day living, I’ve learnt masses from all the home owners I’ve interviewed.
My favourite places to shop
I adore Heals, especially as my grandma used to shop there. I have their Cooks table in my new kitchen and can’t stop admiring the finely turned legs. Like Meghan Markle, I’m also a big fan of Soho Home and love plying my friends with drinks in their stunning Barwell Crystal. I also need more Christopher Farr Cloth in my life!
The designers that inspire me
I love the simple geometrics and saturated colours of Gio Ponti’s work. It would be wonderful to visit his famous Parco Dei Principi hotel in Sorrento. Closer to home, Kit Kemp’s inimitable and exuberant style always sparks joy.
My decorating style
I’ve used my Victorian terrace house in South East London as a palette onto which I’ve applied all the best ideas from the magazines I’ve worked on over the years. My style is what I think of as ‘laid-back plush’. I’m talking deep carpets, big velvet sofas and more sheep skin rugs than you can shake a stick at. A finely-tuned collection of photos, prints and affordable art works give the house a characterful and unique finish.
