Sister Wives' Christine Brown has shared a look at her Utah kitchen, and designers say her color choices will look just as stylish in 10 years' time.

The room exhibits bright white cabinets and countertops that complement her off-white painted walls – celebrating a hue that – despite ever-changing trends – remains supreme.

'Many people think white kitchens are in the past – as the design world moves onto mid-tone and dark-painted cabinetry. However, in the real world, white kitchens are still king,' says Maryland-based designer Stefana Silber. But what makes this hue so eternal? And what else can we learn from Christine's space? Stefana weighs in.

Born and raised in Bulgaria, when Stefana was 18, she moved to New York with her family to the US. She moved to Maryland when she met her husband and has been living there since. As her kids grew older, she discovered blogging as a creative outlet for passions such as home decor, DIY, and her love of beautiful things and places. Her real passion is sharing her knowledge from years of projects and renovations.

While some more vibrant kitchen colors may decline in favor, Stefana says that all-white kitchens, like Christine's, are a safe investment.

A huge kitchen remodel is something many people only do once in their lifetime. They want a classic design that will remain in style for five to ten years or maybe even more. There's nothing worse than feeling tired of a bold or trendy design after two years – but having to live with it for decades,' she explains. White kitchens, however, are different.

'White is a safe and classic choice. It may not be the latest trend, but it's never out of style. It fits in various design styles and provides a versatile blank canvas,' Stefana adds.

In the footage, Christine keeps the camera focused on her kitchen – making it hard to see how her color palette works in relation to her home as a whole. However, designer Stefana notes that this tone works especially well in open-plan living spaces – creating a flexible backdrop that accentuates every other color you may use in your home.

'In an open floor plan setting, it takes away the worry of having to coordinate furnishings and finishings with it. It means your choices of flooring, furnishings, and accessories are endless.'  Of course, this includes Christine's silver and red stand mixer – as seen atop her countertops. And style and versatility aside, this color has durable qualities, too. 'Something very few people think about is the inevitable cracking of crown molding over time,' Stefana says.

'Having white cabinets means a simple swipe of caulk every year to cover the cracks. If you have color-painted or stained wood cabinets, the solution is not so simple.'

Is this shade the safest investment we can make for our kitchen? With this designer's approval, we'd certainly say so.
