I Tested the Nectar Firmer Mattress Topper − I Loved It So Much, I Didn’t Want to Put Sheets on Top of It

I have been testing mattresses and mattress toppers for close to two decades, and have become quite picky and critical with experience. So, when I tested the Nectar Firmer Mattress Topper, I had little expectation of yet another mattress topper having anything to offer that I haven’t experienced before.

After nearly a month of sleeping on it, I can confidently say I was completely wrong, and this topper deserves a perfect score, something I rarely give. The brand promotes this product as two inches of cooling gel memory foam, with customized firmness and added spinal support. All of this is completely accurate. The available options are 'softer' or 'firmer,' and I tested the latter, though it wasn’t so firm that it felt like you were sleeping on an inflexible board.

The topper arrived rolled up in a box that was a bit heavy to carry. When you open it, you should be careful not to accidentally cut any part of the topper, depending on what tool you use, though it is well wrapped and protected.

Once you open it, you should leave some time to let it completely unfold from its shipping position, and also to air out a bit of odor (known as off-gassing) that comes out with it. I asked my husband to try to describe the odor in the room the first day, and he said. 'Nothing good. Smells like a chemical you shouldn’t be breathing.'

Though that’s true, most mattresses and toppers shipped this way have had this issue in my experience. Also, the odor dissipates rather quickly, and the topper flattens out.

It did take around 24 to 48 hours for the lines and wrinkles from its long journey here to completely resolve into a flat topper.

What's It Like Sleeping On the Nectar Firmer Mattress Topper?

Sleeping on this topper simply feels like relief. I’m impressed with its ability to balance the seemingly opposite concepts of firm yet forgiving all in one product. Here’s what I noticed.

• Pressure relief and support: The mattress topper is supportive in any sleep position, but would be most optimal for back or side sleepers. I do notice a slight arch in my back when trying to belly sleep on it, especially with a pillow. However, it’s highly supportive and I still do sleep on my stomach with it without any additional discomfort. It helps your hips and knees especially to not feel like they are pain points in your sleeping position, especially on your side, which is helpful if your mattress itself isn’t the most comfortable. As someone with back pain, it offered exceptional stability and firmness.
• Thermoregulation: I’m always hesitant to believe claims of cooling products, but this one actually delivers. The surface feels cool to the touch, and that benefit extends to when the sheets are on it as well. Though I don’t think I’m noticeably cooler in the middle of the night or anything, I do feel the bed is fresh and cool to sink into when falling asleep, which is helpful.

• Motion isolation: This topper excels at isolating motion, and I know because I sleep next to my 6-foot-5-inch, 240-pound husband, and with some products, when he moves, I move, and I’m not happy about it. Instead, this product makes a little groove where your own body is sleeping, and not much else impacts it. This means we can both sink into our own body shape separately in the memory foam, with a solid flat area between us, and not have issues with motion transfer.
• Edge support: The edge support on this product is pretty shocking, as many mattress toppers I’ve tested have flimsy edges and little support. Instead, there’s hardly any change or sagging in the edge at all when I sit on the edge of the bed, and instead it seems to enhance the mattress’s ability to support my weight properly. There’s no sense of sliding off the edge or any decreased support. If anything, the final seam and construction around the edge add to the overall product’s efficacy.
• Weight bearing: I watched my husband and dog get on and off this topper to observe how quickly it gets back to its normal shape after they move. It was around 10 seconds or slightly less. The mattress doesn’t hold shapes long or create permanent indentations, which to me is a sign of helpful and high-quality memory foam.

• Materials: The materials feel high quality, especially the stitching and design on the actual mattress topper material. They are raised but still streamlined and don’t catch on anything or feel like there’s something under your back when you are lying down. The website describes the materials as cooling yarns woven into the surface of a breathable cover, followed by gel memory foam for added firmness and support. When I was changing my sheets once, I actually slept on it with no sheets because the material just seemed so cool and nice to the touch.
• Price: At $249 for a King, the price is highly justifiable and even budget-friendly for a highly beneficial product.

Who Would The Nectar Firmer Mattress Topper Suit?

Not all mattress toppers are created equal, and it's important to find the one that suits your personal needs the best. Here’s who should consider it:

• Someone who is on a budget and can’t buy a new mattress right now, but needs quick relief from back or hip pain.
• Side or back sleepers who experience pressure or pain, especially at the hips or knees, and need a change or additional support for their mattress.
• Hot sleepers who want to add a level of coolness and comfort to their mattress.
• Someone who knows they want a firm sleep space, but not necessarily something that’s hard or too structured.

However, stomach sleepers who are highly sensitive to having a little arch in their back, beware this might not be best for you.

My Verdict

I highly recommend this product and would purchase it myself today. It’s supportive, cooling, and has high-quality memory foam and edge support. It’s easily the best mattress topper I’ve tested.
