The Opening Note
This week on The Very British Edit, I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to recharge at home: creating a spa-like sanctuary that’s all about rest, ritual, and quiet indulgence. I’ve always loved going to the spa – it’s one of my absolute favorite treats – but I also know you can’t always make time for regular visits. That’s why bringing that same sense of calm and luxury into your own home feels essential to me.
On busy, cold, or overwhelming days, the ritual of a spa bathroom is something I always return to. It slows everything down and transforms ordinary moments into something restorative and grounding.
Even the simplest bath can feel like a luxurious mini-retreat when the details are considered. I’ll be sharing the products that help transform my bathroom into a hotel-worthy sanctuary, built around indulgent rituals. Softly flickering candles, sumptuous towels, soothing fragrances, and carefully curated accessories turn an everyday soak into something truly restorative.
From calming herbal infusions and bathroom houseplants that thrive in humidity to gently scented simmer pots for winter, every texture, scent, and surface is thoughtfully chosen to invite pause, relaxation, and a little quiet indulgence.
It’s the small touches that really make the difference: natural textures, muted tones, curated accessories, and practical little luxuries that feel comforting, never overdone. Together, they create a sense of calm and intention – a bathroom that not only looks beautiful but also feels calm, warm, and welcoming. Even the tiniest details – a hand-thrown ceramic jar, a soft bath mat, or a marble soap dish – can subtly elevate the space and make it feel considered.
The bath itself becomes a ritual. Warm water, salts or oils, a steaming cup of herbal tea nearby, and soft lighting make the moment feel intentional. Sitting in the tub with candlelight flickering, steam rising, and a gentle fragrance in the air is a small luxury, but it’s one that immediately changes how you feel. Every part of the experience – from lighting and scent to textures and temperature – is designed to encourage you to slow down and fully be in the moment.
And the ritual doesn’t end when you step out of the tub. Wrapping yourself in a soft towel, sinking into a cozy chair with a warm drink, or letting the candlelight linger into the evening carries that calm through your home. It’s these little gestures that transform everyday routines into something restorative. That’s the real magic of creating a spa-like space at home.

This edit is about intentional self-care, about giving yourself a corner of the home to switch off, recharge, and savor moments of indulgence – no appointment necessary. Layering light, scent, texture, and comfort turns ordinary routines into rituals. And indulgence doesn’t need to be extravagant; it’s about noticing the small things, slowing down, and letting your home truly support the way you live. That’s the kind of everyday luxury that actually sticks, and it’s entirely achievable right at home.
The Edit: Curate a Spa at Home
In the Spotlight: NEOM
Few wellbeing brands have the quiet, transformative power of NEOM – and it’s one I genuinely love. I probably have at least five NEOM products in my home at any one time, and they’ve become part of my daily routines, woven into how I unwind, reset, and simply make my home feel calm. That alone says a lot.
NEOM was founded in 2005 by Nicola Elliott, a former journalist, who started blending 100% natural, essential oil–based candles in her own kitchen to manage stress and anxiety. What began as a personal solution quickly grew into something bigger: a brand dedicated to creating natural, effective products designed to support better sleep, lift your mood, reduce stress, and boost energy. Nicola co-founded the company with Oliver Mennell, and they launched with just four signature hand-poured, three-wick candles – each one crafted with intention, each one created to do more than just smell lovely.
What sets NEOM apart is that the scent is never superficial. Every blend has a purpose. When I light one of their candles at the end of a long day, or spritz a pillow mist before bed, it genuinely changes the atmosphere. The fragrances are layered, natural, and calming – never harsh or synthetic. It’s the little things like this that quietly shift the mood of a room, and in turn, how you feel within it.
The brand is now based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, but everything is still made in the UK with ethically sourced ingredients. That care and attention to detail show in every product. And while the candles, bath oils, and mists feel luxurious, they’re never fussy. They’re designed to work seamlessly into everyday life – a candle flickering as dusk falls, a calming bath infused with essential oils, a gentle mist before sleep – small rituals that really make a difference.
For me, NEOM isn’t just about fragrance or aesthetics; it’s about creating a home that feels intentional and restorative. There’s always a candle burning somewhere in my house, and it’s impossible to imagine life without these small, sensory moments.
More than a candle brand, NEOM is a companion for wellbeing. It helps evenings feel calmer, sleep deeper, and mornings a little gentler. And once it’s part of your home, it’s hard to imagine it not being there – a quiet indulgence that somehow makes everyday life feel a little more balanced, and a lot more comforting.
In the Queue
Next week on The Very British Edit, I’m focusing on one of my favorite seasonal rituals: refreshing my spring bedroom ideas. I know it doesn’t officially begin until March 29, but as soon as March is in sight, I’m ready for a change. After months of heavy layers and deeper winter tones, I naturally start craving something lighter, fresher, and a little more uplifting.
For me, it always begins with the bed. Swapping out winter bedding for crisp cotton or breathable linen instantly changes the mood of the room. The space feels brighter within minutes. Thick throws are folded away, replaced with lighter layers, and cushions shift to softer shades or subtle spring hues. It’s a simple switch, but it makes an enormous difference.
From there, I look at the surrounding details. A quilted coverlet, fresh pillowcases, or a woven throw in soft sage, butter yellow, or powder blue can quietly reintroduce spring color without overwhelming the space. I’ll bring in a vase of early spring branches or fresh flowers for the bedside table, trade darker accessories for lighter ceramics, and edit anything that feels visually heavy. It’s not about redesigning the room – it’s about letting it breathe again.
What I love most about this seasonal shift is how it changes the feeling of the space. As the days gradually grow longer and the light softens, the bedroom should reflect that subtle transition. Lighter fabrics, gentler colors, and more relaxed layering create a calm, airy atmosphere that feels in tune with the season ahead.
Refreshing a bedroom for spring doesn’t need to be dramatic. A few thoughtful swaps and a touch of fresh color are often enough. Even before spring officially arrives, those small changes signal a new chapter – and there’s something incredibly satisfying about that quiet sense of renewal.
