In my opinion, nothing sullies the look of a home more than plastic storage. It doesn't matter if it's a slim plastic box tucked under a bed or a plastic container stacked in a closet – whatever the form, and wherever it is, it's an immediate eyesore.
Now, I understand that plastic storage is desired for its practicality, its durability, and its simple, functional design. But here's the thing, you don't have to settle for these overly utilitarian and ugly plastic forms just because they'll get the job done. There are tons of alternative storage ideas that are just as practical, but they're designed to look good while keeping your space organized – something plastic styles just aren't capable of.
I've always found woven storage baskets to be the most stylish alternatives to plastic – typically made with seagrass, rattan, and sometimes leather, their materiality creates a naturally elegant look and their woven texture adds tactile interest. Not only that, but woven storage baskets can enhance a home of any interior design style with their aesthetic appeal.
The right storage basket can enhance a room's design scheme, like the set of two Quimby Baskets from McGee & Co. in the image above. With their dark weave, these baskets match the modern rustic aesthetic of this space and tastefully complement the other decor features.
Any plastic storage you have in your home can usually easily be replaced with a woven variation. Those plastic shoe bins you keep in your closet? Try Rejuvenation's Rina Rattan Basket instead. What about the plastic boxes you use to organize your bathroom? Woven alternatives like Crate & Barrel's Sedona Lidded Tote are just as practical, but much better looking.
I've scoured the internet to find the chicest woven storage baskets on the market. Although these baskets vary in size, design, and intended use, they all have one thing in common – they're so much more stylish than any plastic variation. Don't let your home suffer another day with ugly plastic storage. Your woven storage replacement awaits, below.
