Once the Ugliest Outdoor Accessory, Now the Chicest – Meet Shea McGee’s $30 Portable Lamp

It's charming, cordless, and likely not staying in stock for long

Having spent many a summer as a Style Editor in the interiors space, I’ve noticed one shift without question: the fastest-moving category in outdoor aesthetics right now is portable lighting. The clearest example this season is Shea McGee’s wicker-look lamp from her new Target drop – a piece that, from price tag to taste, feels almost too good to be true.

Not long ago, outdoor portable lamps were neither. Ugly – and, worse, expensive. Shea’s cordless number, on the other hand, priced at a cool $30, features an on-trend woven tapered shade, an integrated LED, and, unlike many purportedly ‘outdoor’ lamps, actually resists the elements.

Back in the days of yore (read: 2023), a $30 portable lamp might have proved no better than a wildly overpriced piece of garbage. Now, it seems like the smarter outdoor living room buy – especially when (without naming names) it looks near-identical to options priced four times higher.

I give it a week before it sells out. Maybe less.

How I'd Style It

There’s plenty of leeway when it comes to styling a classic coastal lamp like this, but if I were setting the most 2026 scene possible (which, interestingly, looks a lot like St. Tropez, circa 1960), here are the top three patio ideas I’d pick to make it happen.

Additional Outdoor Lamps

Discover three more portable lamps that, as a style editor, make me want to cry tears of joy. They grow up so fast.

There are plenty more Shea McGee–designed gems where that came from – including a few I’d move on sooner rather than later. My edit of nine favorites covers every alfresco occasion.
