I'll be honest, at no point did I think that a few pieces of felt would ever have that much of an impact on my kitchen.
However, after ending up with some cookware protectors from Le Creuset, I can safely say that my minuscule cookware storage has never been neater, nor have my pans been so safe from chips and damage.
Simple but efficient, the cookware protectors are now considered one of my must haves for anyone in possession of one of the best Dutch ovens. This is why.

These durable felt Cookware Protectors provide a protective layer between nested or stacked pots in storage. Designed to help prevent chips and scratches, the generously sized 15 3/4” star design will accommodate your largest and deepest pots. Alternatively, the long-lasting felt fabric can be cut to fit in between smaller-sized cookware and will not fray.
No one understands the struggle of small kitchen storage as I do. Living in a compact period home, my cabinet space is severely limited, making stacking pans and using vertical storage to save space essential.
However, my most expensive investment pieces – my Le Creuset Modern Heritage Dutch Oven and Classic Signature Stainless Steel Frying Pan – can be easily damaged by stacking. Scratches and chips quickly degrade the quality of a pan, and when you’ve invested in heirloom-quality cookware, proper care is crucial for ensuring longevity.
In the past, I avoided stacking my most prized pots, leaving them on the counter or using an old cork trivet from Amazon haphazardly to keep the bases separated. Then I came into possession of the Le Creuset cookware protectors – star-shaped felt barriers designed specifically for deep cookware and stacking inverted lids.
They’re super soft, flexible, and fit perfectly into my 5-quart Dutch oven, protecting not just the base but the sides and rim, too. The fact that they are so helpful for all cookware, from non-stick pans and baking trays, to cast iron skillets and beyond, only makes them that much more practical for an everyday workhorse kitchen.

They're an all-in-one essential for organizing pots and pans, especially for the devoted Le Creuset collector, and I can't believe I ever did without them.
What to Shop
Organizing kitchen appliances and cookware is never easy, no matter the size of your space, especially when it comes to investment pieces such as cast-iron cookware.
To help streamline your cooking area and protect your heirloom items, I’ve rounded up six top picks for storage and care that will keep your kitchen both neat and stylish.
If you are not too invested in having matching branded protectors for your branded pans, these more affordable pan stacking protectors are made from high-density polyester, come in three sizes, and can be further cut to size if needed.
These silicone tabs offer a seamless way to protect your Le Creuset cookware while maximizing storage. They sit securely on the rim of your enameled cast iron, creating a gentle barrier between the base and lid when stored inverted.
Whether you have seasonal pieces or need to transport your Dutch oven for dinners, these padded tote bags are designed from premium heavy-duty cotton canvas with a double-reinforced top handle and a rugged zipper, and a convenient pocket inside holds utensils for serving.
The Stainless Steel Lid Holder is the ideal way to beautifully and safely hold and display your Le Creuset cookware and bakeware lids. Simply place a lid on the holder while cooking to keep it out of the way or use it to air-dry lids after cleaning – the drip tray collects condensation and moisture to keep counters clean.
The Grill Pan Brush has tough, durable nylon bristles that make quick work of removing stuck-on foods from enameled cast iron cooking surfaces.
Crafted from premium stoneware and finished in Le Creuset’s signature vibrant glaze, this utensil crock brings a pop of color to your space while standing up beautifully to daily use, with straight sides to keep utensils upright and neatly arranged.
With the storage taken care of, brush up on the best ways to clean and care for every type of cookware to ensure your investment staples last for decades to come.
