One of the more difficult parts of tidying a messy room, drawer, or space is knowing where to shop for the best storage pieces. With so many retailers to choose from and quick online delivery too, it's easy to go over the top and add more clutter to the mix, or feel so overwhelmed by the sheer choice that you give up.

So, where should you actually be buying your home organization products? That will depend somewhat on what exactly you need and how quickly you would like it.

Here, our professional organizers have scoped out their top seven stores for storage products and share their go-tos for everything from budget-friendly bulk buys, to sustainable luxuries.

For Courtney Cummings, professional home organizer and owner of The Stylish Organizer, deciding where to shop for storage comes down to quality and brand trust.

She begins, 'Let me give you one big piece of advice: When searching for organizing and storage products for your home, stick to tried-and-true retailers for quality products that will stand the test of time.

'Thinking about Temu or Shein? Sorry to burst your bubble, but it is highly unlikely the product will last. And while that amazing basket at Home Goods may be enticing, it is unlikely to be there next month when you need another one. And trust me, you will need another one.'

With that in mind, these are the seven spots to shop, recommended by the pros.

1. The Container Store for choice

It is hardly surprising that the one store on every pro organizer's list is The Container Store. The clue is in the name; it sells everything you need to contain your stuff and ace your home storage ideas.

Amélie Saint-Jacques, professional home organizer, Kon-Mari consultant, and owner of Amélie Organizes, says, 'Obviously, I love The Container Store, because they have the greatest selection of products, the quality is great, and they have an excellent return policy if the items don't quite fit the bill.'

It is also home to many storage products that professional organizers can't live without.

Jessica Gonzalez, cleaning expert and COO at Sparkly Maid San Antonio, adds, 'From acrylic drawer dividers, multipurpose boxes, and stackable shelves for every type of space, The Container Store is so customizable and advanced that you can easily change and upgrade your organizing system as life changes.

'It's a bonus that I find the customer service great. It is easily one of my most dependable and trusted dealers.'

2. Amazon for affordability

Amazon storage and organization is a great place if a professional organizer needs an affordable option (such as organizing a kids' room on a budget). Plus, Amazon Prime often means the items are delivered the next day for tight project turnarounds.

Amélie shares, 'It's a great place to get quality brands, like iDesign and others, and there will always be something in your price point. I also love being able to read reviews and view photos uploaded by other buyers.'

If you're not a Prime member, try it for free for 30 days to enjoy fast, free delivery.

Courtney agrees, but adds, 'I recommend checking reviews for any products that you are planning to purchase, and confirm the measurements of your space before placing your order. Trust me, this will save you time and money in the end.

'For my clients, I have sourced colorful playroom bins, unique closet baskets, bathroom organizers, sturdy garage totes, and more from Amazon. I love the quick shipping options, especially if I am on a deadline.'

It's worth noting any items labeled 'Amazon's Choice' have been given this label by Amazon, and it is not something retailers or sellers can pay for. It means the product is usually is stock, bought often, rarely returned, and well-rated by verified shoppers.

3. Organize-It for specialized storage

It isn't all just big brand names, either, especially when it comes to shopping for specialized storage that makes a house look expensive.

Amélie says, 'There is a little-known online store called Organize-It which offers very specialized storage products, and it's really worth checking out!'

4. Target for convenience

If you need something pretty, affordable, and quick to organize overlooked areas in your home, Target storage and organization is your best bet, Amélie assures us.

'When I need something quickly (especially if I can pick it up in person), I also like checking out Target. Their selection of organizing products is wonderful, and they offer affordable, quality basics.'

When shopping at Target, Courtney 'constantly' beelines for the Threshold by Studio McGee and Hearth & Hand by Magnolia lines for decorative yet functional items, and the Brightroom storage line for practical picks.

She adds, 'Not only do they have a great selection online and in-store, but the return process is simple if an item doesn’t work out for the space.'

5. The Citizenry for sustainable storage

The Citizenry baskets are on the more expensive end of storage baskets, but there is no denying that they are beautiful, handwoven, and are an eco-friendly organizing tip for a more sustainable home.

Jessica says, 'Stores such as The Citizenry, Will + Atlas, and Quince are all great places for well-made pieces that are made from sustainable products, home goods that not only look nice and work well, but also support the artisan community by being manufactured ethically.

'This allows you to create your home with sustainable organizing in a very stylish and intelligent manner.'

6. IKEA for inspiration

Amélie adds, 'Let's not forget IKEA storage and organization!

'It's easy to shop online (though in-store pickup will often be a more cost-effective option than delivery), and walking through the store is always so inspiring!'

IKEA also offers larger storage furniture at affordable prices (ideal if, like me, you are trying to organize a small storageless home).

Plus, there are plenty of IKEA hacks you can try to make mass-manufactured furniture look custom.

7. Walmart for practicality

The final go-to for Courtney is Walmart.

She shares, 'The Home Edit line at Walmart has great options for kitchens, bathrooms, pantries, and laundry spaces.

'My favorite is the series of clear storage bins to provide maximum visibility in smaller spaces. The clear drop-front bins work wonders inside cabinets and on narrower shelves to contain what otherwise might be chaos.

'Outside of The Home Edit line, there is also an assortment of plastic bins, closed lid totes, and rattan baskets that fit a variety of spaces.'
