The Los Angeles home of Ashley Benson serves a fresh take on traditional farmhouse kitchen ideas, with a modern and playful twist.

Recently unveiled in Architectural Digest, the whole home is deeply personal, bringing together a wide range of sentimental influences. Benson turned to interior designer Nicole Gordon to realize the vision for her home, and collectively, they aimed to elevate the home whilst respecting its original architectural features.

Benson explains that she loves to regularly host friends, and so naturally, the kitchen is a focal point of the home. Filmmaker Nancy Meyers was a key inspiration to Benson for the design of the kitchen, as she tells Architectural Digest: 'One of my favorite directors is Nancy Meyers, so my dream was always to create something that I felt would be in one of her movies.'

The kitchen features lots of design elements typical of farmhouse decor ideas, including the shaker-style cabinets and copper pans hanging above the kitchen island to create a collective look.

To promote a more modern twist, the color palette is playful, pairing the deep green hue of the cabinets with blush pink accessories, most notably the bar stool. 'I love a nice blush tone with a good rich color like green,' Benson tells Architectural Digest.

The sleek, marble countertop on the kitchen island also refines the space and balances out the rest of the room's deeper-toned colors.

Traditional farmhouse kitchens remain a popular aesthetic in the world of interior design, famed for their timeless appeal. Lisa Cooper, Head of Product at bespoke design company Thomas Sanderson, explains: 'The farmhouse style never seems to go out of favor in the kitchen, perhaps its popularity lies in the fact that it’s the fusion of old and new.'

Making reference to the colors opted for in the design of Benson's kitchen, Cooper explains: 'At the heart of this style are favored minimalist color schemes like creams, whites, and beiges but also the opportunity to experiment with rich greens and blues to add character to your kitchens give this style a timeless appeal.'
