Jenna Ortega creates visual interest in her white living room using this designer-approved technique
The actress plays with texture and stylized decor to create an inviting neutral living room – and her technique is replicable
There is nothing as classic as white interiors. This hue is effortlessly clean, chic, and stylish. However, if not designed carefully, these spaces can end up looking clinical or under-designed. In Jenna Ortega's home, this is not the case.
In the actress's home, the white walls, neutral sofa, and neutral rug paint a calming, tranquil picture. However, the glossy dark wood floors and the textural fabric of both the rug and the couch give the room more depth and dimension. The stocked shelves behind the television also add a decorative touch.
Experts say the visual interest comes mostly through the mix of textures in Jenn'as space. 'The way that Jenna plays with texture in this sleek, all-white living room keeps the look from feeling sparse,' says Kathy Kuo, NYC-based interior designer.'Her rug and furniture each have distinctive textures that feel very visually distinctive despite the fact that they're in the same color palette.'

Soledad Alzaga, San-Francisco-based interior designer adds: 'To elevate the plain white living room color scheme, Ortega adds personality and warmth through cozy textures like the plush rug. The juxtaposition of dark floors against the white walls creates a sense of depth and contrast, adding visual interest and sophistication to the room.'
San Francisco-based Interior designer Soledad Alzaga has worked on designs projects in San Francisco, Sonoma, Atherton, New York, Martha's Vineyard, Los Angeles, Mexico and Argentina.
Furthermore, the stylized, living room shelves further add dimension to Jenna's space. Kuo tells Homes & Gardens: 'Floating white shelves on the walls are a functional way to add storage and a display area.'
Alzaga continues: 'Her styled wall shelf and vases of fresh florals also bring pops of visual interest to the room.' With trends like bookshelf wealth growing ever more popular, this look will remain a stylish way to add visual interest to a white space.
