Mid-century modern is a timeless design style that is celebrated for its understated and elegant appeal. Capturing the chic essence of this minimalist design style is the LA home of British supermodel Rosie Huntington Whiteley.

The model and founder of minimalist beauty brand Rose Inc is known for a pared-back approach when it comes to beauty and fashion, so it’s no surprise that her home follows a similar suit. Taking to Instagram, Huntington-Whiteley recently shared glimpses into her stylish home, depicting a sleek living space that encaptures a mid-century modern style.

It’s a timeless space that promotes a clean and relaxed look, thanks to its neutral color scheme and understated mid-century-inspired furniture. We spoke to the design experts to get their take on the living room.

‘The sleek design and neutral colors create a timeless, stylish look that draws attention without being too flashy or demanding. This living room showcases the best of what mid-century modern can offer – a classic combination of a timeless look and practicality. With its neutral colors and simple lines, it is both sophisticated and minimal, creating an inviting atmosphere that never goes out of style,’ explains interior designer Ricky Allen.

Mid-century-inspired furniture, such as the pieces in Huntington-Whiteley's home remains a timeless choice, as Allen continues to explain: ‘Mid-century modern furniture pieces have stood the test of time and are still appreciated today due to their unique blend of form, function, and style.’

Owner of mid-century furniture company Hossle Woodworks Justin Hossle observes that the mix of materials shown in the space also contributes to the room's core on mid-century modern decor, ‘This living room encapsulates some of the key ‘ingredients’ of mid-century modern design – mixing materials like wood, metal and natural fibers, geometric shapes, and an uncluttered space.’

The room’s large proportions also compliment the understated furniture whilst the darker colors of the sofa and coffee table provide balance, as explained by interior design expert Kathy Kuo, ‘I love the way the slatted wooden ceiling draws the eye and creates a beautiful compliment to the clean lines and warm neutral palette of the lounge chairs. The understated sofa and coffee table in darker tones provide just the right amount of contrast, while the pops of green coming through the upper windows add a verdant splash of color that ties everything together.’
