I asked interior designers which home products they always wait to buy on sale – here's what they said

Interior designers never pay full price for these items, and you shouldn't, either

Call me stingy, call me savvy, but one thing about me is that I'm always eager for a good deal on home decor. And I'm not the only one. Lots of interior designers keep up with home decor discounts to find the best products for themselves and their clients, and they even have certain items that they always wait to buy on sale.

You see, keeping up with interior design trends can be expensive, and there's nothing more frustrating than finding that perfect piece, and realizing it costs more than you're willing to spend. That's why waiting for a sale can be rewarding – you'll get the pieces you love for a fraction of the price. I call that a win-win.

So, what are the home decor pieces that interior designers always wait to buy on sale? I asked, and they answered. Find out what they said, below, just in time for the Fourth of July sales and Amazon Prime Day too.

1. High End Rugs

As one of my favorite interior design features, rugs have the power to anchor a space through color, pattern, and texture. That said, the best rugs are usually quite expensive, which is why designers often wait for a sale to buy them.

'I love to buy high-end rugs on sale,' interior designer Amber Condry tells me. 'High-end rugs equate to better quality in the long run – they hold up against wear so much better and become heirloom pieces. Since they’re often priced out of reach, it’s worth it to get them on sale whenever possible!'

Designer Sally Wilkins also looks to buy rugs on sale, and in particular, Persian rugs. 'These rugs are investment pieces, often with higher price tags, but they do go on sale from time to time, and it's absolutely worth the wait,' she shares. 'With care, they soften beautifully, their colors mellow with age, and they develop a patina that tells a life well lived.'

2. Kitchenware

Although considered household essentials, kitchenware items like utensils, glasses, pots, and pans can be expensive. For this reason, interior designer Georgina Wilson recommends waiting for a sale to buy them.

'I like to upgrade practical items like crockery, cutlery, and everyday glassware when they're on sale,' she tells me. 'They might be the unsung heroes of the home, but when chosen well, they quietly elevate the rhythm of daily life.'

So, whether you're just starting to furnish your kitchen, or looking for some new pieces, consider waiting for a sale. It's highly likely you'll score a great deal on top-quality products that you'll keep for years to come.

3. Major Appliances

Just as kitchen items like cutlery and glassware are household essentials, so are home appliances. But as we're all aware, these appliances are expensive – they're certainly not items you'd purchase on a whim. However, if you've had your eye on a certain appliance, a great time to buy is during a sale, according to designer Rachel Blindauer.

'I always recommend clients identify their desired dishwasher, fridge, or washer-dryer combo in advance, and then set a calendar reminder around major sale events,' Rachel tells me. 'Labor Day. Memorial Day. Black Friday. These dates consistently yield deep discounts without sacrificing quality.'

Even mid-summer sales tend to carry great deals on major appliances – you can get top-quality household necessities for a fraction of the price.

4. Decorative Objects

Decorative accents are key to finalizing a space. However, between vases, mirrors, trays, books, and other objects, these details can become costly. Because of this, interior designer Melissa Roberts recommends waiting for a sale to purchase the finishing touches for a room.

'To fully style and layer a room, you typically need a lot more accessories than you would think, so these end up being costly,' Melissa says. 'Anytime you can source these on sale is helpful for the overall project and your wallet!'

So, whether shopping for home decor in stores or online, it's always worth it to check the sale section for small decorative objects. You never know what treasures you might find.

5. Luxury Towels and Bedding

One of the finest luxuries in the home has to be towels and sheets so soft and decadent, they feel like clouds. However, these products certainly aren't cheap – with high quality usually comes a steep price tag. That's why Georgina Wilson always recommends buying them on sale.

"Beautiful bedding and plush towels are small luxuries I always wait to buy on sale," she tells me. "They're the finishing touches that make a home feel considered, and when you can layer in that comfort at a better price, it's a win-win."

With lots of summer deals in the works, keep your eyes peeled for the best bedding sales and towel sales. You just might be able to find household linens that'll make your home feel like a luxury hotel for a significant discount.

Decorating a home is expensive, but these designer tips can help you save money by deciding which products you should wait to buy on sale. And since Amazon Prime Day is just around the corner, now is the perfect time to score major savings on all of your home decor necessities.
