I never used to understand the point of a mattress topper. I've been testing mattresses for years now, and I guess I got this idea in my head that if you just invest in a good mattress, you won't need a topper. While there is a bit of truth in that, I've changed my tune since testing the Helix Plush Mattress Topper.
I love my mattress. It provides the perfect balance of support and softness, so I never thought I needed a mattress topper. When the Helix Plush Mattress Topper arrived, I didn't think it could elevate my sleeping experience, but it did.
I tested the Helix Plush Mattress Topper over a period of several weeks. I wanted to see whether its thermoregulation and motion isolation abilities deteriorated over time. I also documented the unboxing process to give you the fullest possible picture of what it might be like to use this product.
Surprisingly, this super thin mattress topper added a layer of softness that helped me to fall asleep quicker. Not only that, but it's designed in a way that doesn't interfere with my bed's thermoregulation or motion isolation. Tack on an affordable price tag and I'm happy to report that the Helix Plush Mattress Topper is a worthy investment. It might even be up there with the best mattress toppers.
Who will the Helix Plush Mattress Topper suit?
The Helix Plush Mattress Topper is thin, so it shouldn't dramatically alter the feel of your mattress. Whether you sleep on your front, back, or side, you should appreciate this smidge of extra softness.
Although the Helix Plush Mattress Topper is made from polyester, which tends to retain heat, it didn't damage the thermoregulation of my mattress. That's thanks in part to the breathable viscose cover, but also a consequence of the thinness of this topper.
Mattress toppers can be expensive, but with the Helix Plush Mattress Topper, we see that some added comfort doesn't have to break the bank. There's also a 100-night sleep trial with the purchase of a Helix Plush Mattress Topper. If it isn't a fit, you can return the topper for a full refund.

Unboxing the Helix Plush Mattress Topper
The king-sized Helix Plush Mattress Topper arrived in a small-to-medium-sized box that was easy to carry inside the house. My neighbor grabbed the package for me when I wasn't home, but I had no issue carrying it on my shoulder from her house to mine, up the steps of my front porch (which is really steep), and into my home.
The topper was tightly folded into a cardboard shipping box: so much so that I couldn't believe it fit inside the box, which was smaller than I would have expected for a king-sized topper. It arrived wrapped in two layers of plastic, which were easy to remove.
I was so thankful that there weren't any off-gassing or chemical smells when I unwrapped the mattress toper. Because of the topper's design, it didn't need to expand. I placed it on my mattress, and it was ready to go.
What is the Helix Plush Mattress Topper like to sleep on?
The Helix Plush Mattress Topper is the comfiest topper I've ever slept on. I think that has to do with its thinness: it's thick enough to improve the feel of the mattress, but not so thick as to change it entirely. As someone who sleeps on my stomach, back, and side, depending on my mood, I appreciated that the topper didn't impact my sleep position one bit. Rather, it added a layer of softness and coziness that I didn't realize it was missing.
Breathability and cooling
I was testing another mattress topper around the same time that I tested the Helix Plush Mattress Topper, and unfortunately, I learned that some mattress toppers can retain far more heat than others. Luckily, the Helix Plush Mattress Topper isn't one of those toppers. I never once got hot sleeping with this topper: it wasn't thick enough to impact the thermoregulation of my mattress.
Motion isolation
Measuring just one and a half inches thick, this topper shouldn't affect the motion isolation of your mattress one bit. Just to make sure, I placed a wine glass in the middle of the bed and tossed and turned across the mattress. The wine glass didn't wobble: if anything, this topper could slightly improve the motion isolation of your mattress.
Construction and design
The Helix Plush Mattress Topper is made from polyester and bamboo viscose. The main body of the topper is quilted, offering plush little pockets of comfort, softness, and bounce.
According to Helix, the fibers are hypoallergenic, and the topper can fit a 15-inch thick mattress. My mattress is only 10 inches tall, so it fit incredible well. Helix advertises the mattress topper as one and a half inches thick, but I think that's pushing it: at most, this topper is an inch thick in the plushest places. The good thing about the Helix Plush Mattress Topper being so thin is that you don't have to worry about your sheets not stretching over the topper and they mattress: they'll fit.
Another great thing about this topper: it's machine-washable and dryer-safe. You could pop it in the wash with your sheets for quick, convenient cleaning.
How does the Helix Plush compare to other mattress toppers?
Like I said, the Helix Plush Mattress Topper is only going to provide a bit of softness to the mattress you already have. If you need something that will make a big difference to a really firm mattress, you might want to go with the Coop Retreat Mattress Topper, instead. It's thicker and plusher, albeit more expensive: at least it's made with organic certified materials.
The INGALIK Mattress Topper is quilted and looks a lot like the Coop Retreat Topper, but it's far more affordable. In fact, it's cheaper than the Helix Plush Mattress Topper and thicker, too, providing a cushioned sleep experience that particularly benefits side sleepers.
I'm a big fan of the Viscosoft Active Cooling Copper Topper, in part because I like my mattress so much, but you might be in the market for something thicker. The Viscosoft Active Cooling Mattress Topper is made with thick layers of gel memory foam, offering support for your spine.
Is the Helix Plush Mattress Topper worth it?
I thoroughly enjoyed testing the Helix Plush Mattress Topper. It was comfy and cozy and provided a bit more cushion to my sleep experience. It didn't make me hot at night and it contributed slightly toward my mattress' motion isolation capabilities. I'll likely keep using it now that the testing period is over.
If you like your mattress for the most part, but it's a touch too firm, then the Helix Plush Mattress Topper is for you. It's too thin a topper to make a huge difference to your sleep experience. Essentially, you're still going to enjoy most, if not all, of your mattress' features.
Thankfully, the Helix Plush Mattress Topper is reasonably priced: it comes with a 100-night sleep trial and a one-year limited warranty to protect your purchase. With that said, I can understand that if you're going to spend more than $100 on a topper, you might expect it to totally transform the feel of your mattress: that just isn't the case with the Helix Plush Mattress Topper.
