Spending more time indoors over winter means your home's air quality inevitably suffers. Everyday actions such as cooking, dusting, and burning candles release pollutants that become trapped in under-ventilated homes over the colder months, and can lead to leaving your space feeling and smelling stuffy.

But the Coway Airmega Mighty, discounted by $60 at Amazon right now, is the simple, compact, and affordable solution. It cleanses odors and harmful particles out of the air we breathe, creating a space that feels fresh and health-conscious without taking up lots of vital floor space.

It's one of the best air purifiers we've tested, thanks to its small size and rapid purification, and it was already an affordable option, even before this rare $60 reduction.

I used to loathe how stuffy it gets over winter. Cooking fumes, vacuuming, and simply spending a lot of time in one space can accumulate some serious odors, and as opening your windows in winter isn't always an option, investing in an air purifier was how I fixed this issue in my home.

But while my purifier is an expensive and bulky model for larger spaces, the Coway Airmega Mighty is a slim, affordable choice that we loved on test. It's rarely discounted (it hasn't been on offer since the Black Friday period!) – and you'll be hard-pressed to find a better alternative for $169.99.

On test, Gabriella Dyson loved its odor reduction, writing, 'The room's 'catty' odor – which I thought I had gone nose blind to – was all but gone.'

It's so effective because it uses an activated charcoal filter, an essential when dealing with smells and certain gases, that can clear a room of musty odors in minutes.

When frying food, one of the worst for compromising your air quality at home, Gabriella noted how quickly the Airmega Mighty dealt with it, 'Within 30 seconds of frying food, the machine turned from blue (indicating clean air) to red (indicating highly polluted air).

'I was impressed to watch as the machine faded from red to dark purple and back to blue again over the course of a few short minutes. What’s more, it made light work of removing greasy odors from the air,' she wrote in her review.

As it's simultaneously trapping odors and pollutants, keeping it nearby when vacuuming, cooking, dusting, or sleeping will do more than make your home smell nicer – it helps to keep your air healthy to breathe.

That's because household allergens, VOCs, and other pollutants are circulated into the air daily. Something as insignificant as walking on a rug will kick dust into the air, and once it's airborne, it can't be vacuumed. It stays in the air until it is either breathed in or eventually settles on a surface.

And that's a useful way to imagine the air purifier: As a vacuum cleaner for the air. Our homes would quickly become unbearable to live in if we didn't have our best vacuums to pick up dust, hair, and other messes that cause odors, trigger allergies, and damage our floors.

The same goes for our air quality. The Coway Airmega Mighty has four-stage filtration, including the anti-odor charcoal filter and an anti-allergen HEPA filter. Cleaner air is released into your home, with smells and contaminants filtered out.

And take it from somebody who has spent more than 100 hours testing air purifiers: It makes a huge difference to invest in one that automatically senses air quality. You can set it and forget it, leaving it to purify your space in the background.

The Coway Airmega Mighty is discounted to $169.99 from $229.99 at Amazon.
