That's why when I saw the endearing Lodge Cast Iron Road Trip Series State Skillets, I was sold immediately. Each commemorative pan celebrates a different state and the things it's best known for in the cutest, most practical way I have ever seen for the best cast iron cookware.
Why The Lodge Cast Iron American Road Trip Series is a Kitchen Collector's Dream
The Lodge Cast Iron American Road Trip Series is available in 19 states so far, including California, Colorado, Georgia, New Jersey, and more, each with completely unique designs to highlight the unique traits of each state.
Cast iron makes up some of the best non-toxic cookware, free from potentially harmful non-stick coatings, and crafted from pure cast iron and seasoned with food-grade oil. However, with the simple construction often comes somewhat bland designs. A circular black pan can only be so exciting, after all.
The new American Road Trip collection by Lodge has completely changed my expectations for choosing cookware; however, introducing unique designs to the base of each of their pans without compromising on cooking or heating quality.
They are, by and large, one of the best ways to decorate and bring to life your stylish kitchen ideas without having to add useless decor that gets in the way. Given that Lodge also offers a handy Skillet Display Stand for these pans, it's super easy to do so, too, allowing you to make the most of the fun pieces without risking damage to your cookware.
Although the collection only features 19 states for the time being, the plan is to release all states and Washington D.C. skillets over the next few years, up until 2028. Each pan includes the name of the state in a unique font, along with several symbols you would most associate with the state.
Massachusetts, for instance, references Fenway Park, while New York features the unmistakable outline of a yellow cab.
We haven't tested any of the state pans specifically, but we have reviewed the classic Lodge Cast Iron Skillet, and gave it 4.5 stars for its affordability, great low-stick, and durability. The downside was the need for frequent seasoning, a maintenance need you'll find with any quality cast-iron pan.
Once you understand how to season a cast-iron pan, however, this process is easy enough, albeit a little time-consuming.
As with the other lodge pans, the American Road Trip collection is safe for use on any stove type (including induction), over a campfire, on a grill, and in the oven for true versatility.
