Victoria Beckham’s Impeccable Style Convinced Me to Use This Foreboding Color at Home – A Year Later, I’m Still in Love

Once a risk, now a favorite – this color continues to reward bold decorating

A year on, I still can’t get enough of Victoria Beckham's rich green color scheme. What initially felt like a bold, almost indulgent choice has quietly become my favorite, proving that the most confident interiors are guided by instinct rather than decorating trends. It’s also a reminder that some of the best room color ideas come from looking beyond your own four walls.

In this scheme, forest green takes centre stage, grounding the room while adding subtle drama and depth. Inspired by the grandeur of ancient woodlands, the colour evokes the serenity of nature indoors, from the sweeping lines of oak trees to the delicate curves of acanthus leaves.

This sense of calm and depth is what drew me to Victoria Beckham’s London flagship store on Dover Street, designed in collaboration with Rose Uniacke. Saturated in a bespoke green paint and layered with velvet-upholstered furnishings, the space feels as luxurious as it is liveable. It is decadent yet intimate, and timeless in a way that only the most thoughtfully designed interiors are.

A year on, the appeal of green room ideas feels even stronger. There’s something inherently reassuring about it. As the color most closely tied to nature, it has an almost subconscious calming effect. ‘The poet and philosopher Goethe described green as a useful color – one that is good to have around,’ says Francesca Wezel, founder of Francesca’s Paints. It’s a sentiment that resonates deeply once you’ve lived with green over time.

Decorating with green reassures us on a very primitive level,’ explains Color and Design Psychology Specialist Karen Haller, author of The Little Book of Color, available on Amazon. ‘Green signals life – we know we can find food and water. Using dark green paint and furnishings in our homes brings feelings of reassurance and rest.’ That sense of comfort is precisely why this color scheme hasn’t dated or dulled – it still feels restorative, grounding, and quietly uplifting.

Living with green – a proven mood-boosting color – has also changed how I think about color confidence. What once seemed like a commitment now feels incredibly versatile, whether applied to expansive walls or as a sophisticated finish for cabinetry. Layering lighter and darker tones, adding tactile materials like linen and velvet, and pairing green with antique woods only deepens its richness. Neutrals keep it fresh, while accents of blush, turquoise, or copper add warmth without overwhelming the palette.

If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s that green rewards bravery. I’m especially drawn to rooms fully enveloped in the same shade – walls painted all over for a cocooning, almost canopied effect. It’s immersive, calming, and endlessly elegant.

‘I use a lot of green because it is very calming,’ says interior designer Sarah Vanrenen. ‘I also love patterned green wallpaper. I don’t think space should ever be a barrier to going bold – strong colors and patterns work beautifully even in small rooms. And if you’re brave enough, take it onto the fifth wall – the ceiling.’

A year on, this rich green scheme still feels like the right choice – my favorite, without question. Inspired by forest landscapes and perfected in spaces like Victoria Beckham’s Dover Street store, green proves that some colors don’t just endure; they deepen with time.
