A richer take on the serene earth palette, this heritage-style sitting room comes to life with sage green paint and layers of rich blues and browns.
A more subdued take on the earthy vibrancy trend, the serene earth palette employs a sense of calm through color, layering natural tones for visual harmony.
Here, Interior designer Allan Chapman decorated with green, acting as a calming canvas for richer accent tones. 'Our client for this project has always loved the color green, so once we decided this space would serve as a cozy retreat from the joyful chaos of little children in the rest of the house, the direction felt clear. This was the perfect room to color-wash the walls in her favorite shade of green.'
Allan adds, 'The soft blue velvet sofa felt like a natural complement to the green backdrop. Blues and greens appear together everywhere in nature, and they create a timeless, versatile foundation for almost any design scheme.'
She continues, 'This living space serves as the home’s library and study, so we introduced warm leathers and classic plaids to create an earthy yet elevated, masculine feel. Our goal was to design a space that feels inviting and intimate. Perfect for curling up with a book or sipping bourbon by the fire.'

Drenched in a muted blue paint, this charming living room is brought to life through its serene color palette and layers of whimsical patterns.
Powder blue sets the tone of this whimsical living room, paired with soft textures and nostalgic patterns. Sara Braham, Co-founder of Braham Macnicoll, explains, 'That connection to nature became the foundation of the palette. Soft, watery blues echo shifting skies, fresh greens reflect the foliage beyond the glass, and warm, earthy browns ground the scheme with depth and balance. It’s a palette borrowed from nature – timeless, harmonious, and impossible to misjudge.'
Sara continues, 'When designing this grand Victorian villa in Harrogate, we were immediately struck by the way the expansive windows draw the mature trees indoors, blurring the boundary between house and garden. The landscape doesn’t just surround the home – it becomes part of the experience within it.'
By mixing patterns, the living room has a distinctly romantic feel that complements the powder blue paint perfectly. Sara says, 'We always recommend weaving these tones together through fabrics and furnishings that vary in pattern scale and texture – pairing delicate florals with bolder motifs and small prints, and balancing soft linens with tactile weaves. This layering adds depth and quiet interest without overwhelming the space.'
Deep greens, muted blues, and warm, lived-in browns bring a deeply sophisticated feel to this modern-meets-traditional living room.
This traditional living room comes to life through its understated color palette. Color-drenched in a pale blue paint, the richer green and brown contrast against the cool-toned walls.
Lauren E. Lowe, founder of Lauren Elaine Interiors, says, 'I often like to include a more muted or earthy color to add warmth to cooler tones that would otherwise be too bright or too pretty. Earth tones often feel relaxed, so they can make formal elements feel more approachable. Blue and green are earth’s neutrals, so this fool-proof color palette will always feel serene and reminiscent of nature.'
Like earthy neutral paints, the serene earth palette feels grounded. Use the richer greens and browns as later layers and keep the blue cool and subtle. Lauren says, 'Be strategic with emphasis by keeping the blue tones crisp and bright, the greens earthy and tonal and try to keep additional colors outside of this palette to a minimum. Consider layering in verdant elements such as antique landscape oil paintings or tapestry-inspired patterns to help tie the tones together.'
A whimsical botanical wallpaper and layers of organic textures bring a lived-in charm to this cozy snug, inspired by the beautiful natural views surrounding the space.
Inspired by the serenity of nature, interior designer Lindley Arthur created a beautiful snug designed for relaxation and taking in the outside views. She says, 'This small den has two full walls of windows overlooking a sea of trees in Fort Worth. We wanted to honor the amazing view and choose a color palette from nature.'
She says, 'Nature is the best inspiration for so many color palettes. Just take a walk in your garden to see how different shades of green, brown, and color play beautifully against each other in unexpected ways.'
The jewel-toned blue wallpaper, matching window treatments and plush two-seater sofa bring richness to the space, styled with delicate layers of organic textures, from the rattan blinds to floral throw cushions. Lindley says, 'The printed Fern grasscloth from McLaurin & Piercy was our starting point for the space. The oversized print and soothing color were an easy choice for the compact space. We warmed it up with texture: unlined grass shades, warm woods, and hints of camel and ochre – all hues that can be spotted in the canopy of trees outside.'
