I have been on the long journey of converting as many of my kitchen essentials to non-toxic alternatives as possible, but bakeware has always proven tricky. Silicone pans are a no-go for my clumsiness, and many traditional non-stick tins are coated in forever chemicals.

That's why the new Caraway Bakeware+ set is music to my ears. Expanding on the heritage brand's existing non-toxic cookware and First Basics bakeware, this new set adds five new baking trays.

Caraway’s Non-Toxic Oven Trays Are a Kitchen Game-Changer

It is all well and good switching over to the best non-toxic kitchen appliances to help make cooking healthier, but if you forget about your bakeware essentials, you could still be exposing your food to harmful chemicals every time you use your oven.

While we have not had the chance to test the Caraway Bakeware+ Collection yet, we are fans of the Caraway ceramic non-stick pans, reviewed by our expert chef, Lydia Hayman, which have the same non-toxic ceramic coating, crafted without PFAS, PTFE, PFOA, Lead, BPA, and Cadmium as the new tray set.

These 'forever chemicals' are well known for being nonstick and conducting heat efficiently, meaning they are used in a wide range of cookware and bakeware. However, they are also linked to organ damage in several studies. Avoiding them where we can in the kitchen and home is therefore essential.

Creating a non-toxic home by opting for bakeware such as the latest Caraway set means you're only indulging in a little extra sugar, and not unwanted and harsh endocrine disruptors.

On testing the ceramic coating on Caraway's pans, Lydia found that the non-toxic coating makes cleaning a kitchen after cooking a delight. The non-stick is second to none, she noted, adding, 'The ceramic Caraway pan cleaned up in literally seconds.'

That being said, it is on the more delicate side, so do not put it in the dishwasher, and when storing your bakeware, invest in a good adjustable bakeware rack from Walmart, to prevent them from scratching or toppling over in your cabinet.

Like the comfortable handling of the pans, the new Bakeware+ range is also designed with expanded edges and handles for secure grip, even with oven mitts, to make your baking safer – it sounds perfect for me with my slightly weak grip and propensity for clumsiness.

Our Head of Solved, Punteha van Terheyden, who is disabled and suffers weakness in her wrists, agrees, adding, 'Getting anything in and out of the oven for me is a bit tricky due to chronic pain and easy injury from a genetic connective tissue disorder.

'That's why I am always particularly impressed when cookware and bakeware are not just lightweight and long-lasting, but built with extra grip features. This makes the task easier all around, whether or not you have a joint or grip issue.'

The Caraway Bakeware+ range is available from today in nine timeless shades to suit any kitchen color ideas.
