If there’s one chef who knows how to turn even the simplest dish into a moment of culinary excellence, it’s Hell's Kitchen chef Gordon Ramsay.

While his perfect scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with chives recipe may steal the spotlight, it’s his effortless take on fried eggs that has food lovers recreating the magic at home, regardless of the time of day.

Crisp-edged, golden, and gloriously runny, Gordon Ramsay’s fried egg technique is fast, fuss-free, and perfect for elevating your everyday breakfast.

Gordon Ramsay's Fried Eggs

Gordon Ramsay cooks this egg recipe for his weekend breakfast, but I actually think it is the perfect summer lunch recipe – or, why not have it in the evening over a soothing bowl of ramen?

Ingredients

  • 1–2 fresh eggs
  • Olive oil (or vegetable oil for higher heat)
  • Sea salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Optional: chili flakes or chopped herbs

Method

  • 1. Heat it up
  • Warm a non-stick pan on medium-high heat – no oil yet – until it’s shimmering hot.
  • 2. Sizzle with oil and butter
  • Add the oil; it should ripple instantly. That’s your cue: smell it. You're starting to build flavor.
  • 3. Crack with control
  • Crack the egg straight into the pan (or into a small bowl, then gently slide it in). Tilt the pan so the whites fan out, creating those loved lacy edges. Tip: Add chili flakes to taste.
  • 4. Baste and crisp
  • Let it fry for a few seconds, then use a spoon to scoop up the hot oil and baste just the whites – this cooks them through without flipping, keeping the yolk gloriously runny.
  • 5. Season to taste
  • Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt and a crack of black pepper over the egg. Taste is everything.
  • 6. Finish
  • Cook for another 1 minute until the edges are deep gold and crisp, but the yolk is still soft and inviting. You can add Siracha and Worcestershire sauce to taste.
  • 7. Plate It Up
  • Slide the egg onto your dish – toast, salad, rice – wherever you crave that buttery, umami-rich kick.

Gordon Ramsay’s fried eggs are a masterclass in elevating the everyday. With crisp, golden edges, a perfectly runny yolk, and just the right amount of seasoning, his technique transforms a humble egg into something restaurant-worthy.

It’s a fast, flavorful approach that proves even the simplest dishes deserve care, heat, and a touch of drama. Whether you’re making breakfast for one or brunch for a crowd, this method delivers bold results with minimal effort, exactly as Ramsay intended.
