Maximalism and vintage-inspired design often go hand in hand, and such is the case with bedrooms. Lately, we can't help but notice that Victorian features, like four-poster beds with lush canopies and intricate wallpapering, seem to be popping up everywhere, and we're not complaining.

Singer-songwriter Marina is on board with the maximalist trends, having recently shared photos of herself in a pink, pattern-drenched bedroom featuring canopies, scalloped posters, and crisp, white bedsheets.

Design experts say that the mix of antiques and contemporary sensibilities is what makes Marina's space feel truly trendy yet timeless.

'This bedroom is a really exciting interpretation of modern maximalism with a distinctly Victorian influence,' Andrew Seed, managing director and interior expert at The Odd Company explains. 'The aesthetic celebrates florals, warm colours, and draping, weaving one feature into another to create a room that brims with personality. Think 21st century meets grandma-core.'

To achieve the look, Andrew recommends beginning with a statement foundation: the bed.

'Choose an upholstered headboard in a rich fabric, taking it even further with a bespoke, handmade design,' he suggests. 'To marry the elements as in Marina’s image, I’d advise a curved silhouette or waved headboard. This addition adds something interesting and avant-garde, which you can work against your more traditional bed linens.'

Then comes wallpaper, which Andrew explains should be carefully considered based on pattern preference as well as quality.

'Invest in bespoke prints for wallpaper or textiles, supporting independent designers,' he tells us. 'For a look like Marina’s, research makers of handprinted designs or those with a history of botanical, floral printmaking. Quality designs will help the execution of your maximalism, taking it from chaotic to styled.'

Finally, accessorize the bed with a canopy or a bed skirt (like this one from Amazon) for that vintage, maximalist look.

'If your bedroom allows, a four-poster bed with drapes can be a fantastic investment, bringing a sense of vintage, regal magic,' Andrew states. 'If that isn’t feasible, a bed skirt offers a simple, more affordable alternative that adds a decorative flourish without the need for a new bed base.'
