Decorating Your Bedroom in 2026? These Are the 7 Color Trends Designers Are Loving Right Now

This year's bedroom color schemes are all about warming hues that bring design flair while guaranteeing a soothing space

Bedrooms are increasingly becoming spaces that go bold with design and decor, not least through their color schemes. While neutral palettes were once favored in a bid to make bedrooms feel calming, richer and more expressive tones are coming to the fore, proving that they can be equally, if not more, restful.

For the year ahead, interior designers are decorating bedrooms with a breadth of shades to take inspiration from. At the neutral end of the scale, warming and nuanced earth tones are leading the way, whereas bolder bedroom color ideas welcome moody reds, cozy mauves, and smoky blues.

1. Warming Burgundy

The burgundy color trend is continuing in 2026, making its way into bedrooms where it adds sophistication and moodiness. Decorating with this ruch hue doesn't need to be as bold as painting the walls, although this is a stylish way to create a cocooning space. For a lighter touch, take inspiration from this bedroom that pairs a burgundy headboard with teal wallpapered walls.

'I think we’re going to see more petrol and burgundy tones in bedrooms this year,' says the interior designer Michelle Gage. 'I love a rich jewel-toned green, and it pairs perfectly with burgundy hues, as shown here.'

2. Soothing Neutrals

While rich and color-confident shades are at the fore, there's still good reason to choose neutral bedroom ideas. 'In bedrooms, I anticipate a continued focus on calm, flexible color choices that can evolve over time,' says the designer Marie Flanigan, who created this relaxing bedroom with Benjamin Moore's Chantilly Lace on the walls.

'Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore is a standout because it pairs effortlessly with both warm and cool palettes,' she says. 'It creates a clean, light-filled canvas that allows textures, textiles, and personal details to take center stage. This versatility feels especially relevant right now as people want bedrooms that adapt with changing tastes and seasons. Layering in natural woods, soft bedding, and subtle contrast helps the space feel warm rather than stark.'

Jessica Whitley is also championing neutral bedrooms for 2026. 'I anticipate decorating bedrooms in soft, enveloping neutrals that lean warm, particularly muted taupe, mushroom, and stone-inspired tones,' she says. 'People are craving spaces that feel protective, calming, and quietly luxurious, and these tones do that far better than crisp whites or cool grays.'

3. Soft Gray-Greens

2026 is all about nuanced colors that don't easily fit into one category, and gray-greens are the perfect example of this. While classic grays can feel flat and cold in a bedroom, the addition of warming green tones puts a much warmer spin on this neutral. 'Green brings a sense of calm, wellness, and restorative energy – making it especially suited for bedrooms,' says the designer Nadia Watts. 'It adds richness and quiet sophistication without overwhelming smaller spaces, and pairs beautifully with wood tones, natural textiles, and other organic materials.'

'In what feels like a chaotic time in the world, pale greens are naturally serene colors that evoke nature, and will be big in 2026,' agrees Jessica Hobson. 'When these hues are mixed with deeper greens, whites, blues, and warm neutrals, they create a soft color palette that creates calm and visual interest. Add some texture and patterns in varying scales for a custom layered look. Keeping everything within the same color family is an easy way to create an ethereal, soothing space – and who doesn't want that when getting into bed?'

4. Delicate Pinks

Pink bedrooms are a stylish choice for 2026. Bridging the gap between neutral schemes and colorful ones, a soft, plaster-toned pink that wraps bedroom walls brings warmth and softness. 'I am especially fond of Farrow & Ball's Setting Plaster,' says the designer Mary Beth Sullivan, who designed this calming space. 'People are quick to write off pink as too girly – but this is a rare shade that can actually lean masculine.'

'It is a very comforting color that has a brightening effect,' Mary adds. 'I suggest pairing pinks with base neutrals (like oatmeal and white) and pulling in richer colors like terracotta or navy blue as accents in a space.'

Andrea Goldman is also a fan of soft pinks for bedroom walls, specifically Farrow & Ball's Pink Ground, which she describes as 'soothing, fresh, and tranquil as a bedroom paint color.'

'We love the warmth of this particular shade because it can be styled in a variety of ways without being too feminine,' Andrea adds.

5. Powder Blue

If you're leaning into colorful bedroom ideas this year, why not paint the walls a chalky shade of powder blue? Although it leans playful, the cool tones of blue keep bedrooms feeling comfortable and calm. 'Blue is a tried and true favorite for bedrooms,' says designer Mary Beth Sullivan. 'I gravitate to it because it is calm and classic.'

In this bedroom, the design studio Stelly Selway opted for Farrow & Ball's Parma Gray on the walls. 'We appreciate rich color,' says the designers Tanya Selway and Benjamin Stelly of Stelly Selway. 'It's thinking about color as the lead, and then more neutral tones can operate as the accents.'

6. Earthy Mauve

The mauve color trend is a great one to embrace in bedrooms. Earthy, rich shades of mauve offer a sophisticated look and are an effective choice if you want to decorate with a moody color palette while ensuring an inviting feel.

The designer Jacqueline Goncalves comments on the move toward rich and earthy shades in bedrooms this year. 'These colors feel calming and cocooning, making them ideal for rest,' she says. 'They’re especially relevant right now because they bring warmth and pair beautifully with natural materials like linen, oak, and wool. When used as an enveloping wall color, soft finishes and warm lighting help enhance their depth and comfort.'

7. Deep, Smoky Blues

Deep and moody shades of blue are another variation of this calming color that designers are turning to in 2026 for bedrooms. 'We look for blues that have a cooler tone and a more natural feel, often achieved by mixing in a bit of green,' says Marli Jones of Rebel House. 'Smoky blue also brings about a sophisticated and timeless palette of depth and moodiness that lends to a darker bedroom, packing a large impact, but allowing the space to breathe.'

'A perfect cool blue-green shade for a bedroom is Benjamin Moore’s Everard Blue,' Marli adds. 'For accents, incorporate lighter blues to provide an airy respite to its deeper counterpart.'

The latest wider bedroom trends bring creativity and excitement to sleep spaces with decorative details, bold textiles, and playful patterns, and so it's only fitting to see the color schemes used throughout take on an expressive and confident approach. While neutrals still have their place, especially when layered with interesting textures, richer hues are proving to be favorites right now.
