I just graduated – here's how I'd deck out a dorm for less with the Amazon bedding sales
When you shop the best bedding on Amazon, you can save hundreds of dollars on chic sheets and supportive pillows to update your dorm

It's never too soon to start back-to-school shopping. When you shop the bedding sales, you can score major savings on sheets, shams, quilts, and comforters well in advance of next semester.
I just graduated a few months ago, so I remember what it was like to try and decorate my dorm on a student budget. At first, I really struggled to find bedding that met my sleep needs and matched my sense of personal style without spending hundreds of dollars. I wish I'd known about bedding sales when I was in school – I could have saved myself a lot of time and money.
Nowadays, I work as H&G's specialist sleep writer. I've learned that, out of all the best places to buy affordable bedding, Amazon offers the best balance of quality and cost. I've found sheet sets, cooling comforters, and supportive pillows from big-name brands and specialist sleep stores all listed for less in the Amazon bedding sales.
Amazon dorm bedding deals
I still remember my first night in a dorm bed. I woke up with a stiff neck and a sore back from that firm, inflexible mattress. My best piece of advice for incoming students is to invest in the best mattress topper for dorm beds. You'll save yourself from aches and pains, and it'll only cost $100 or so: Amazon stocks some great toppers for even less.
Stylish sheets
These are some of the best-selling bed sheets on Amazon, with more than 240,000 five-star reviews praising their comfort and durability. For me, the biggest selling point of these sheets is their wide range of shades. Play it safe with whites and creams or mix it up with sage greens, ice blues and baby pinks.
The best affordable bed sheets just got even cheaper. For a little less than $35, you get a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and a pillowcase made from double-brushed microfiber for silky softness. If you're planning on putting a mattress topper over your dorm bed, then I suggest you shop the extra deep pocket sheets for a more secure fit.
If you're a hot sleeper, like I am, then you'll appreciate a set of the best Amazon cooling sheets to help you sleep sweat-free. Bedsure sheets are made from rayon, derived from bamboo, which is naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial to bust the bacteria that breeds in warm, damp environments, such as beds.
Cozy comforter
Filled with premium polyester and finished with elegant embroidery, this Bedsure set would suit every style and complement any color palette. It's the sort of bedspread you won't grow out of − together, you could make the transition to off-campus housing or even your first apartment.
In my freshman year, I lived in one of the oldest dorms on campus. There was next to no insulation, so the room felt freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. I could have done with a thermoregulating comforter, like this one, to keep me just the right side of cool and dry.
I cannot overstate what a good deal this is. When you shop the Amazon Prime Day bedding sales, you could save $90 on this 14-piece bed-in-a-bag set. You get a comforter, a sheet set, a towel set, a bedside caddy, a laundry bag, and even an eye mask for less than $10 per piece.
Mattress toppers
This isn't a huge discount, but it's a great product. In fact, it's the best mattress topper for dorm beds, according to our expert ranking. Filled with pressure-relieving memory foam, this ViscoSoft Mattress Topper is plush enough to soften up an old, firm bed, yet sufficiently supportive to keep your spine aligned.
Your average dorm bed is an old-fashioned innerspring mattress, replete with creaking coils that dig into your sides. Pair it with a memory foam mattress topper, like this one from Sleep Innovations, for a little more plush comfort. It's the best way to upgrade your sleep experience without replacing your mattress, which most universities won't allow you to do.
You shouldn't have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good night's sleep. When you shop the Amazon Prime Day bedding sales, you don't have to. The IULULU Mattress Topper offers pressure relief and cooling comfort for just $44.70. The only issue is that it doesn't come with straps, so you'll need to pin it down with a fitted sheet.
Supportive pillow
I hated the thin, flat pillows my college provided. I wish I'd had something like the Sealy Molded Bed Pillow. Filled with memory foam, this pillow is made to mold to the shape of your head to lend enhanced support to your neck and shoulders. Once you lift your head, it springs right back into shape without losing any support in the center.
If you're allergic to feathers, or you prefer to purchase vegan products, then you need some sort of down alternative pillow. This one from Casper is structured around a 2" gusset for better and neck alignment and wrapped in a cooling cotton cover to enhance airflow. It's the best bet for side sleepers and hot sleepers.
The core of this pillow is filled with real goose feathers to cradle the natural curvature of the upper spine. Sure, the outer chambers are filled with polyester, but you'd be hard pressed to find a 100% down pillow for this price. The most important thing is that the fiberfill doesn't detract from the look or feel of the pillow.
Mattress protectors
Naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial, bamboo is the best material to safeguard against spills and stains. This mattress protector is totally waterproof to keep your bed as pristine as possible and stop any unsightly yellow stains from forming on your mattress.
College beds can be kind of gross. You never know who's been sleeping in your mattress before you and whether they took good care of their bed. You need one of the best mattress protectors to act as a barrier between your bed and your body for safe, hygienic sleep.
This mattress protector comes with a stretchable skirt to fit any depth of mattress. Made from terry cotton, it's totally free from vinyl, PVC, phthalates, and all that synthetic stuff. The SureGuard Mattress Protector is actually GREENGUARD Gold certified free from toxic chemicals for cleaner, deeper sleep.
Amazon Prime Day dorm bedding deals FAQs
Is Amazon bedding good?
It can be. Amazon stocks all sorts of bedding from smaller sleep stores as well as big-name brands (if you know where to look, you could find Brooklinen and Casper bedding listed for less on Amazon). With so much breadth and depth of choice, there are bound to be a few duds in amongst the good stuff.
The best way to find good bedding on Amazon is to read the reviews. At the top of every product listing, you'll find a link to relevant customer ratings and reviews. Ideally, you're looking for bedding with lots of four- or five-star ratings and detailed reviews. You could scroll through every single comment, but I wouldn't waste your time: Amazon employs an AI tool to summarize the most common pros and cons and other, verified customers get to upvote and downvote the reviews that they find the most or least helpful.
When is the best time to buy bedding?
To make a major saving, the best time to buy bedding is either during a federal holiday or as part of a site-specific sale. There are always bedding deals on Amazon, but you'll find the deepest discounts around public holidays, such as Labor Day and Thanksgiving, as well as their own Amazon Prime Day.
