Bedroom color trends 2025
These color ideas will help you avoid outdated bedroom trends while giving your space a design-led feel, whether you prefer a pared-back or bold approach to your decor.
1. Dark green
Dark green has been popular throughout 2024 and is expected to endure into 2025. For bedrooms, a dark green color scheme can feel cozy and calming.
'For 2025, a deep, muted green is one of our top choices for bedroom color schemes,' says designer Cheryl Clendenon, owner of In Detail Interiors. 'We recommend Benjamin Moore's Caldwell Green, Peale Green, and Tate Olive. These colors feel grounding and restful, making them perfect for creating a calm, inviting space to unwind. They pair beautifully with warm neutrals and natural textures like linen, wood, and soft wool, adding depth and serenity without overpowering the room. Green is truly a timeless hue that can be tailored to feel either modern or traditional, depending on the accents and materials it’s paired with.'
Interior designer Meredith Owen of Meredith Owen Interiors is also drawn to green bedrooms for the year ahead, recommending another dark green paint: 'I love Sherwin Williams' Thunderous because it has a hint of green and is earthy enough to work well with many other colors, and still feels cozy.'
2. Blue-gray
In-between hues can be a great way to introduce color into your bedroom while maintaining a fairly neutral feel. Shades of blue-gray and green-gray, for example, feel restful, making them a great choice for bedrooms in 2025.
'Serene grey greens and blues make for a perfect palette in a bedroom,' says Brynn Olson of Brynn Olson Design Group. 'You want a calming color tone that promotes sleep and relaxation. This scheme can feel cozy and warm in the winter months, yet also fresh and bright in the spring and summer.'
'Pairing warm-toned woods and natural materials with cool blue greys creates a harmonious balance, helping to transform your space into a true zen-inspired retreat,' Brynn adds.
3. Neutrals
If you're looking for a timeless bedroom color scheme, you can't go wrong with decorating with neutrals. Light and airy, neutral colors such as warm whites will stand the test of time while helping to create a soothing space. To add more interest, consider layering in soft hues through accents, suggests designer Liz Williams, founder of Liz Williams Interiors:
'When designing a bedroom, I like to start with a neutral foundation that’s accented with soft colors. I see this continuing to be my favorite color scheme for bedrooms in 2025. Neutrals provide a calming foundation, which is critical in the bedroom.'
'Choosing to accent it with soft colors adds personality without overwhelming the space. Whether it's a pale blue or a muted green accent, it’ll keep the overall vibe peaceful and sophisticated, while allowing for individuality, which can be applied through the use of pillows, curtain trim, lamps, or a throw. The best part is that they can be easily changed out for a new look.'
4. Earthy greens
Green is proving to be a favorite color for bedrooms in 2025, with designers also pointing towards lighter, earthier greens as well as darker shades.
Sarah Tract, founder of New York-based Sarah Tract Interiors opted for a green color-drenched scheme here, creating a complementary color scheme with accents of pink throughout. 'My current favorite color to use in the bedroom is green,' says Sarah. 'While you can employ a wide range of greens and still achieve a sense of serenity, I see soft, earthy greens like Rococo Limewash from Portola Paints as the most versatile shade.'
Vyanca Soto, owner and principal designer at Market Studio Interiors also sees soft greens as a standout color trend for bedrooms, saying: 'Going into 2025, we have been drawn to soft mineral greens for bedroom color schemes. These nature-inspired greens, with their gentle, grounding quality, create a calm, rejuvenating atmosphere that promotes relaxation – a perfect fit for a bedroom retreat. This color also pairs beautifully with warm and cool tones, allowing for flexible, layered palettes that can evolve with changing design elements over time.'
5. Pink
Pink bedrooms make a good alternative to neutrals since they can feel cozier and add more depth. For 2025, opt for plaster pink paints that feel earthy and not saccharine.
'I prefer warmer colors for the bedroom, such as Edward Bulmer’s Jonquil or Farrow and Ball’s Pink Ground, because everyone’s complexion looks more beautiful in the soft pink light,' says interior designer Caroline Gidiere. 'Also, scientifically, warm light in the evening counters the blue light of the pervasive screens and cues our brains to start producing melatonin and winding down for bedtime.'
Another popular plaster pink paint is Farrow & Ball's Setting Plaster, which is recommended by Cathy Kincaid of Cathy Kincaid Interiors, who describes it as: 'the perfect shade of a pale, fleshy pink that reads as a soft neutral.'
6. Rich reds and purples
Looking for something bolder for your bedroom color scheme? Dark, moody paint colors are an on-trend way to create a cocooning, cozy feel while adding plenty of sophistication to bedrooms.
Some of the most stylish dark paint colors to try are rich, warming reds and purples, as designer Tiffany Matthews, founder of Motif Homes explains, 'We love the ambiance that Sherwin-Williams' Carnelian color brings in 2025. This warm, earthy hue exudes an inviting feel, especially when paired with Sherwin-Williams' cozy Shoji-White. Our excitement for this color combination is immense, and we intend to enhance it with ticking stripes and delicate floral patterns on bedding, furniture, and window treatments.'
7. Warm neutrals
'Warm neutrals are inviting, soothing, relaxing, and cozy,' says designer Rebecca Roberts, founder of Manhattan-based Method + Moxie. From decorating the walls with warm neutral paints to adding neutral tones through smaller decor, neutrals promote a timeless feel.
'Layering in creams, caramels, wood tones, and earthy green helps ground and center us in an environment where we can relax and unwind in a calm and nurturing space. Incorporating natural woods adds texture and hominess to soften any room, but you can also play with texture in wall and floor coverings, textiles, and light fixtures. All are a great way to chill out any space that’s intended to feel like a sanctuary,' adds Rebecca.
8. Blue
Blue bedrooms are another good way to go if you want to lean into a calming space with more depth than light neutrals.
'It’s always difficult for me to choose a favorite color, but lately, we’ve been working with various shades of blue for bedrooms,' says designer Laura Jenkins. 'There’s something incredibly soothing about blue, yet it remains classic and timeless. We’ve also been embracing more saturated tones, even going so far as to create custom furniture that complements the overall color palette.'
This color trend can also come in the form of lighter tones, suggests designer Rebecca Ward: 'My current favorite choice for a soothing scheme is blue for the walls, such as Dunn-Edwards' Powder Mill. To add warmth, I am layering in light creams, whites, and maybe a touch of rust, browns, and blush tones.'
9. Bright red
The inclusion of red on this list may come as a shock, but red is infinitely mood-boosting and will appeal to those early risers. Red can transform interiors, adding a sophisticated fun aesthetic that is both confident and playful.
One of the most passionate and life-enhancing colors to use in a decorating scheme, red offers a luxurious bank of positive energy. Whether you highlight a design scheme with touches of carefully chosen accessories or paint walls floor to ceiling in a deep shade of this versatile color, it can transform a dull bedroom and create different moods, from refined to playful, depending on its application.
In moderation, primary reds work well in children’s rooms, while more sophisticated, darker reds make welcoming backdrops for large bedrooms. Scarlet reds that have a touch of orange in them, such as Farrow & Ball’s Blazer, offer a cozy appeal for bedrooms with a fireside.
‘We have been decorating with red on the walls of our sleep sanctuaries from the beginning of human existence,’ explains Marianne Shillingford, creative director of Dulux. ‘We find red on the walls of the earliest cave dwellers and red pigment was used in Neanderthal burials as a symbol of life. It has the longest visual wavelength of any color, which makes it the most impactful, and it is famous for stimulating the appetite, good conversation and love, making it an enduring favorite in the bedroom,’ she continues.
10. Yellow
Yellow bedroom ideas are shining a spotlight on our homes. As one of the most uplifting bedroom color trends, it is not surprising that it is having a renaissance. Mood-lifting and warm, yellow brings energy, confidence, and optimism to a small or dark bedroom.
From pretty primrose to zesty lemon, yellow brings warmth and sunshine to every surface it touches. ‘This cheery color imbues the room with optimism and is perfect for bringing a sense of positivity into the home,’ says Justyna Korczynska, senior designer at Crown. ‘Yellow is also very soothing, particularly when paired with cool, calming tones such as greys and pale, muted blues. The color creates a sense of calm with a feeling of well-being and restfulness.’
‘To use yellow or ochre, you need to think of it as the “neutral” in the scheme; as a foil to set off other colors, not to overpower everything else,' says Susan Deliss, textile designer and interior decorator. 'Avoid anything that says canary or banana and go for something that sets off the architecture or warms up a cooler space.’
Be inspired to decorate with yellow – the most cheerful color, guaranteed to inject warmth and creativity into any space.
Which of these bedroom color trends is your favorite? Whether you want your space to feel relaxed with soothing neutrals or more colorful with vibrant tones, these color ideas will ensure a stylish look.
